Wedding Dinner @ Muar @ Yong Sheng Banquet Hall

This summon was issued to my mother & we took this chance to travel down south to break our monotony over the weekend.

Together with The Ung's Family our neighbour, we went together for this wonderful wedding dinner at Yong Sheng Banquet Hall, Muar. We reached Muar town at 5.30pm my mother and my son XiangYi wanted to eat something before the wedding dinner (just in case the dinner starts late). So I took them to the Glutton Street of Muar 'Thum Chiak Kay' in Hokkien or 'Wai Sek Kai' in Cantonese for a Duck Rice.

This is the newly wed couple Lee Shin & Peck Young.

The dinner started at 8.15pm. For this kind of dinner KL could not make it at 8 something maybe 9.15pm. (as usual KL got good excuse traffic jam mah...)

Our table was reserved with this note 'For the Bride side - KL Aunty'.

“The Menu” of the night.
Shark fin’s soup served individually a bowl each from the kitchen. No more and no less.

Four Season - Interesting and fabulous & Chicken in Thai style.

Salad Prawn & Steamed Pompret.

Roast Piglet & Assorted Vegetables.

Braised Pork Belly with Buns - yummy

Some candid moments at the dinner.....

We would like to wish Ng Peck Young & So Lee Shin a Happy marriage and bear lots of children as the Chinese population is shrinking by the day in Malaysia.

Porky Affair @ Ribs@Oasis, Bandar Utama, PJ

The location of this restaurant is kind of secluded, if not for this hunt for food I would not know of this tiny pocket of commercial shops in Bandar Utama (BU4). It is in between 1 Utama Mall and Jalan Persiaran Surian of Damansara Mutiara.

Chicken Liver Paté – the paste is moist at the outside but dry, cold & flaking in the inside. It does not paste well on the toast.

Grilled Belly Oriental Pork Ribs (RM32.90) , the BBQ smell was appetizing. Texture was better than the Baby Back even though with the unhealthy belly fat. The sauce for this Oriental ribs was not as exciting as the one below.

This is the Honey Mustard Baby Back (RM30.50) on promo. A slab of ribs which was dry and not much of meat in it. The consolation is the sauce. It was tantalizing. I hope this is not the quality it should be for this order. Nothing juicy nor tender found in this back. There were potato & mushroom tucked underneath the slab and they were good.

I would like to come back for their burger.

Mee Rebus @ Taman Industri Sg Buloh

I have blogged this coffee shop sometime back in April 2009, see heRe.

This stall is operated by a young Chinese man assisted by this neatly dressed Indon lady and if you are in the mood for mee goreng or mee rebus prepared by a Chinaman. Here is the place to try.

There is no meat whatsoever in this plate of Mee Rebus (RM3.80 = US$1.00) neither it has any seafood in it yet it was simply delicious. It must to be the gravy that makes it so delicious. The gravy is not too thick with nice aromatic fragrant which is so inviting especially after a squeeze of lime in it.

I requested for less noodle and more bean sprouts. Poached potato cut into small cubes similarly for the tofu cubes. A dose of chili sauce, half of a hard boiled egg, a bit of green cut chili and deep fried fritter. These fritters were gorgeously crispy and yummy.

It was a fulfilling breakfast at Restoran Big Family and indeed a good Mee Rebus prepared by a Chinaman…….

I had this Mee Goreng from the same stall on 20 March 2009.

Papa Poor Going to PappaRich @ Rampai Business park, Setapak

We went round Rampai Business Park looking for food. This is a new development of Sri Rampai vicinity in Setapak, there were shops with poor patronage and there were shops with good patronage. Papparich outlet is enjoying good patronage. This Pappa blogger is not rich but is bringing his family for a Papparich experience. Hopefully, after the meal this Papa will not get poorer.

I must say that the quality of food at Papparich is of a better quality compare to most Kopitiam outlets. I am amased by it and no wonder it is popular. This is my first time here at Papparich. So the adventure starts with these orders from four of us:-

PappaBun (RM2.80)– It was a simple bun but super duper bun to savour, though simple but sweet.

Pappa Curry Laksa Special with Foo Chok (RM9.90) – my pick for a big bowl of curry noodle, the curry tasted delicious but the ingredient was too little especially the poached chicken (2 small miserable pieces not for that price). The bowl is full of carbohydrate too much of noodle I would prefer with more bean sprouts in it.

Dry Koay Teow with Prawn(RM8.90) – Another satisfied customer with this nice rice noodle was my wife. I hope it was not a bias opinion as she had met the lady owner of Papparich before.

Pappa Fish & Chips with fried rice & Egg (13.80) – Xiang Yi’s choice of a big and sumptuous order (always like that) maybe a growing boy needs more food than his poor Papa.

Ipoh Koay Teow Soup with Prawn & Chicken (RM8.90) – My youngest son chose this and he was very pleased with his order.

Fried Fish Cake (RM5.80)– a side order to compliment of our meal and it was a right choice, succulent and tasty.

Fried Foo Chok (RM5.80)– This is another side order it was oily and nothing interesting to talk about this Foo Chok.

Pappa ABC Special with Ice Cream (RM6.90)– four of us shared this lovely dessert after our meal, the chendol & red bean were well prepared soft and soothing as they should be. The ice was finely shaved and the taste was inviting. I will give a thumb up for this ABC.

Goodbye PappaRich, PapaPoor will come back for more. Meanwhile we will start saving for you. Cheers…..

Nasi Kandar Pelita பெலிடா நசீ கண்டார at SS2 Petaling Jaya

I remember at this back lane of my dad’s house in Green Lane, Penang where an Indian man would suspend 2 rattan baskets of Nyonya food for sale using a wooden pole and balancing it across his shoulder.

In a similar way Indian Muslim used to “kandar” their nasi, moving from one place to another to sell their delicious curry dishes. These methods of trading are all gone and can not be seen anymore.

And if you are craving of this fabulous Nasi Kandar then you can go to places like “Nasi Kandar Pelita”. There are so many similar shops selling 24 hours at every corner of Malaysia but the popular ones are found in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

Kari Ikan (Fish Curry) was delicious with strong curry fragrant making it so tantalizing when eaten with the plain rice.

Kari sotong or squids was another interesting dish and ultra delicious dish especially those with roe in it.

“Kicap Ayam” - Chicken with thick and sweet soya sauce is like a must eat dish to many people. Somehow it is rather addictive.

Raw & green Chili was such a thriller, you just bite a bit of the green chili, put a spoonful of rice with curry into your mouth. And let your taste buds do the rest. Awesome !!!

Poached lady fingers a common veggie seen at everyone single Nasi kandar shop in town.

A spicy & crispy papadom on my rice, a good starter before we begin our Indian Muslim curry journey…. It’s really wonderful to stay in Malaysia where we can enjoy so many kind of food and one of then this is magical ......N A s I K a n d A r…….
