Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Hong Lai @ Genting Kelang, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur

If you are craving for a good Kuala Lumpur fried Hokkien Mee and do not mind going to Setapak for one. Then I would recommend you this coffee shop.

Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Hong Lai is housed along the main road of Genting Kelang, Setapak and it’s near to the road junction to Air Panas.

Just look at the fierce flame from the burning charcoal and these young assistants will soon take over the business and will continue to provide us the traditional way of Kuala Lumpur signature fried noodles.

The Master Cook of Hong Lai who having been pampering his patrons with good charcoal fried noodles. And his patrons have never failed to return for more of his delicious fried noodles.

It was surely a long wait for his favourite moonlight “kuay teow”. And the good news was he was satisfied with the taste of his noodle and he do not mind the wait.

This is the moonlight fried koay teow “Yip Kong Hor” and is Zu Yi’s favourite noodle. He has been pestering me to bring him here at Hong Lai for this dish. And at last he got it.

The first time I ate this kind of noodle was in 1976 and it was a shock to me seeing the fat & oily yellow noodles in dark soy sauce. Over the years I have got used to it and have cultivated a love for it.  Hong Lai’s fried Hokkien Mee is magnificent and I love it very much.

“Kung Fu” Fried Koay Teow or aka Cantonese Fried Noodle is also as delicious.

We went for more noodles and ordered another dish of “Lor Mee”. We just wanted to try more and it was great especially eaten with a bit of Chinese vinegar.

Proposed MRT in Klang Valley - Sg Buloh to Kajang

Last night’s traffic situation in Kuala Lumpur was horrendous; we need to improve our traffic system badly especially on a heavy down fall.

This proposal looks good and get it implemented immediately.

Breakfast @ Restoran Diva Taman Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur

Diva is the nearest eating shops from my house and ideally good for a breakfast. Since Diva took over the business from a previous operator she has been doing very well and at times you can not find a place to sit.
I started my breakfast with a piece of cucuk udang fritter though I see no prawn in it but it was tasty and indeed a good starter.

Soto Nasi Impit a kind of chicken soup with compacted rice cube originated from Indonesia. There were shredded chicken, a mini potato cake a.k.a “perkedel”, bean sprouts, finely fried shallot, fresh chopped spring onions & parsley in this bowl of mine.
This is a must add in sambal chili sauce, it was black in colour, mean and surely comes with a lot of spicy heat. It was an exciting breakfast as I eat I sweat profusely.

Nothing beats a typical Malaysia fast food like a standard pack of Nasi Lemak. Diva’s Nasi Lemak is awesome.

Saito Fish Balls Noodle @ Taman Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

It is just a few doors away from my client’s office at Jalan Kaskas 2 and I have been eyeing a few eating shops around this area since I started to frequent to this part of the world. Restoran Hup Hup sells only fish ball noodle and so here I am trying its fish ball noodle.
As far as fish ball noodle is concerned, it’s all about the quality of the fish balls. The balls were not as bouncy as they should be. The fish cakes tasted better with stronger & distinguishable fish cake taste.
The yellow noodle is served with chopped preserved vegetable, bean sprouts, 3 fish balls & 3 slices of fish cakes. A plain noodle soup that is simply healthy and delicious.

When I was a young boy living in the northern state of Peninsula Malaysia we used to call “cabai burung” later I learned to call them “chili padi” which is also known as bird’s eye chili. Whatever it is this chili is really packed with a lot of heat. And I like it when the heat is on especially when I desire to enhance the food with extra oomph.

Pork Noodle @ Dataran Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

To be able to savour a bowl of good pork noodle is always a privilege and in Kota Damansara there is a stall at a coffee shop that serves reasonably good pork noodle. And the coffee shop is none other than “Restoran D.U. Café” situated at Jalan PJU 5/10, Dataran Kota Damansara, the above picture also a popular image seen in the famous website of RPK.

In the morning session you will see a lady serving at the stall and later in the noon a young man will take over the role. The preparation & serving of these noodles is pretty fast which you would love it especially if you are in for a fast meal.

This time I opted for “Yee Mee” a kind of dried egg noodle. They look like rubber bands when cooked and in fact it is chewy like rubber band. Once a while, I like such chewiness as you bite & eat. The minced meat is aromatically fresh and tender. With an extra egg in the steaming hot noodle it would make my noodle complete and gorgeous.

Inflation! inflation! prices have gone up this bowl is now sold for RM5.00.

Peter's Fish Head Curry @ Setapak, Kuala Lumpur

There are 2 famous fish head curry shops in Setapak area and one of them is Peter’s Fish head Curry located at Taman P Ramlee formerly known as Furlong Garden. If you have not try this place before then I would strongly recommend you to try it.

They close on Tuesday. Peter needs a break too.

Depending on the number of people eating where there are 3 sizes of portion (S, M & L) that you can pick and on top of that you can add on for extra like squids and /or prawns.

You do not see any fish meat here as they are all submerged. The meats are all fresh and the taste is super great.

There is not much variety of dishes found in this eating shop but just sufficient for you to choose. For instance you can select this poached vegetable simple, healthy and yet so yummy.

Fried chicken and fried Bean Curb are also available to supplement your meal.

My first scoop of the curry wonders for my start of the lunch.
See my previous posting of this eating shop.

La La Chong Seafood Restaurant @ Kayu Ara Damansara. PJ.

La La Chong Seafood Restaurant is located near Pantai Seafood Restaurant at Kayu Ara Damansara.

Though it was already the 17th day of the Year of the Rabbit and you still hears people talking about Chap Goh Meh and Chinese’s Valentine celebration on this weekend.

Old Parr was there for some of us.

Just a bite of delicious chicken satay before dinner is served.

Salt baked Tilapia fish.

The external skin is coated with coarse salt. The skin is too salty to be eaten but the meat was juicy and tasty. At the fish’s tummy you can see some enhancing ingredients like ginger, garlic and green chilli in it.

Seafood chicken soup sounds interesting but the chicken was found to be tough probably it was not cook long enough. It could have been a better cooked chicken. There rest of the seafood ingredients were alright and so was the taste.

Xiong Tong La La is popular here, its name itself tells that you must try this dish. The la la clams were fresh and relatively big. And of course it was yummy with strong taste of Chinese wine & ginger.

Bean curd sheet dish was marvellous and Fried Honey baby squids went very well with our drinks.

La La Fried Beehoon was only average hardly see any clams in it.
