Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar @ Taman Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur

I must say Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar is rather bold to open such a big outlet at Taman Setiawangsa as it was once a sleepy housing area in Kuala Lumpur. Time might have changed. This once a sleepy place has awakened with outlet like Bangi Kopitiam bustling with good business and now Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar is joining the band wagon.

It was a night where I & my lovely wife would dine together without any harassment from our boys.

Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar is huge, impressive, with many workers (maybe too many), and interesting corners like the fresh seafood counter, the BBQ counter, the Ulam counter, Nasi Lemak Bungkus counter and of course a cashier counter.

2 ekor of Prawns RM12.00

1 no of Squid RM8.00 - Sotong Bakar

“Ikan Pari” - Stingray RM22.00 - is it expensive?

a small basket of fresh Ulam RM1.00

Nasi Lemak Bungkus (RM2.00 per pack) instead of plain rice.

This was our pick of the night for the “bakar”, such a joyous chap at the counter.
All these food & drinks for RM50.00.

The BBQ was well prepared with banana leaf and yummy gravy making it a sauce coated BBQ cuisine. The seafood was fresh and the BBQ was delicious. It was a simple and satisfying Ikan Bakar meal. I hope Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar will stay on for a long time cos we will be coming back with our boys.
Majulah Taman Setiawangsa!

  5. Went there today. Cost us a hole in our pocket. Have you tried the ikan bakar in Melaka? These people must learnt from those taukeh in Melaka how to do the ikan bakar. I don't mind paying the extra bucks but for 3 medium sized prawns=RM18 is just too much. Plus, hubby ordered lala and it was not well cooked. It'll be our first and last stop here. Oh, plus they only bakar the seafood. No other varieties. Hoping for fried squid, but they don't served it that way. Ceh, what a waste!

wawajoe - Have heard so much of Ikan Bakar in Melaka but have not really try it. I hope Sekinchan IB will sustain.

  8. I got a shock when a medium sized ikan pari i ordered recently cost me RM20. RM22 is reasonable, I guess.

  13. You have some nice pictures of the food. I was lucky enough to be treated for a meal there last night, but when I saw the prices I did think some of them were a little exp (the prawns and sotong). I'm not sure about the fishes though...

  14. Oh, not sure which place in Melaka Wawajoe is talking about, but there's a nice 'floating' ikan bakar restaurant at Fort Supai, Kuala Linggi Melaka. Except for travelling expenses, the dishes there are quite cheap and delicious.

  20. Hi all ... Went there last nite, arrived at around 8.30pm. It wasn't a bad experience but dissapointed la. Such a nice setting, big hype but some ikan like ikan pari habis, sotong habis, kupang or lala habis. For such a limited menu (they don't even have fried egg or any other veggie except ulam2) then make sure la you are well stocked. If the stock is finished at 10 or 11pm then not so bad but at 8.30? I will not come again to this place ... sorry.

  23. Took your advice and dropped by. Total disappointment.
You really screwed your reputation - I know your comments was lukewarm at best - but this restaurant doesn't deserve to be rated.
