A Chance to Explore Teluk Intan

We were invited to attend a wedding dinner in Teluk Intan so we decided to take this opportunity to see the place with our little wheels.

We reached Anson 安順 (as the Chinese called it) just before noon, checked into a hotel and started roaming the third largest town in Perak. The town is located at an oxbow meandering river bank. My plan was to visit as many makan places as possible.

Winnie and Larry waited for us at the leaning tower of Teluk Intan, a major attraction of the town which was built in 1885 by a Chinese contractor Leong Choon Cheong. It was an elevated water tank serving the surrounding which now is defunct but it still serves as a clock tower.

We found our first target, Rojak Ah Chai which is located next to Pasar Besar at the intersection of Jalan Woo Saik Hong and Jalan Putra.

The fruits were all pre cut, placed on the trishaw and ready to be served.

At last I have tried Ah Chai's famous rojak, it is awesomely delicious, the black sauce is not as thick as those in Penang but it has a strong and lovely flavour of what a good fruit rojak should be. Thumb up for Ah Chai.

A fresh coconut water that is superbly ideal when eating a nice and tasty rojak. Gua suka leh.

Next in my visiting list was Hawaii, a place we were looking forward savouring their ABC. Teluk Intan is not a big town and  checking these places with our bicycles was rather cool and fun. This place is also known as No.1 Lo Han Kou.

A bowl of assam laksa to share, it was on a sourish note like those of a Chinese version. Personally I would prefer the taste of the Malay laksa (Laksa Utara).

Rojak is sold here too, in fact there is a wide variety of foods found here and the place was crowded with hungry people like us.

A truck that is parked right in front of the shop, what an identity of No.1 Lou Han Kuo. You are cool and so is your food.

With all the food in our tummies, feeling guilty and so we went for a spin. Somehow we made our way into a village and ronda towards the tip of the habitat at a bank of Sg. Perak.

 

 We saw red earth bunds being built along the river which I reckoned it is a flood protection project by the Government for the villagers. We also found a nice piece of graffiti in one of the house, I love the beautiful painting on the wall.

Mastan Ghani is famous for its mee rebus and mee kuah rojak and it is always invaded by visitors to this town. It has several branches in Teluk Intan we were at the one in Jalan Selat near Menara Condong (the leaning tower).

Jo mentioned that the cucur udang is really cucur udang as you can really feel the taste and bite of the prawns.

The mee kuah rojak of Teluk Intan, the colour is slightly whitish as compare to others in other places.

Then came Chew with others from Kuala Lumpur where we met up, Chew being a local boy took us around the town briefly and to this confectionery for some purchase of local biscuits.

Sin Joo Heong or the "Tiger Head" is one of the famous brands and here we were contributing to the economy of Teluk Intan. I don't see any Tiger Head near the leaning tower but according to Chew it's his favourite.

From the photo it is shown as 4.10pm and makan again with this new batch of buddies at Glutton Square (Jalan Pasir Bedamar). This is one of the the famous Teluk Intan Chee Cheong Fun found in this Medan Selera.

In another couple of hours we will be seated again for a bigger meal ... we surely can eat.

It was wedding dinner time in a school (SJK(C) Chong Min) compound with about 60 - 70 tables and surprisingly I must say the food was one of the best in a wedding dinner I have ever tried. Everyone of us were amazed by it.

Pun Choy was amazing gorgeous and everybody was super happy with the starter.

Though it was catering for such a huge crowd and yet the food was delicious, better than many dinners I have attended.

The presentation was also impressive not only the taste.

Chong Thai Enterprise is a well known restaurant cum food caterer from Sg. Besar and popular for massive dinner such as this one.

What an ingenious idea with a well presented pack of plastic bags for packing left overs. 

The caterer was so thoughtful that a nicely prepared plastic bags that came specially for the last dish of fried rice. We actually "tapao" this lovely dish making sure that there is no food wastage on the table. 

What a fantastic day of food adventures and also a chance getting to know a fair bit of Teluk Intan. We love you Teluk Intan and Congratulation to Kong & Yu Fen for a new chapter in life.
