Porto - Barcelona Day 3 Third Day In Porto with a Guided Walking Tour

Hola Day 3 - everyone of us were geared up to learn a bit of Porto History and the best and quick way was to attend a guided walking tour. Behind us is the iconic bell tower, Clerigos Tower which can be seen from most part of Porto.

The guide waiting for his guests at the sculpture of Bishop António Ferreira Gomes, a Portuguese Roman Catholic Bishop. The response for this walking tour was encouraging coming from various parts of the globe. 

Our English speaking guide who is passionate and knowledgeable about Porto. He is also a good story teller, just look at the facial expression of his guests and that tell everything.

One of the early places we stopped at was the Jewish quarters used to be and it was very interesting to listen to the story of the rise and fall of the Jewish community, since the medieval ages until now

The drizzle did not deter us as we too engrossed with the tour. To the Portuguese it's raining but to Malaysian it's only intermittent drizzle "sop sop the water".

One of the beautiful views from the secret location and on the far end is Saint Lawrence Church with two domes.

Everyone of us enjoyed the spectacular views and busy clicking their cameras.

The walking continued for more story and fact finding.

We walk back to same spot opposite the Portuguese Centre of Photography to continue to listen to his ever interesting story. GPS : 41.145078, -8.616592

Then we walk through the small park with rows of trees with fat ugly trunks welcoming us as we go through.

At the park are some sculptures like this one  of laughing figures having fun on the terrace seats.

From the park we took a cross the road and a had another good look of another church called the Church of Our Lady Carmo. GPS : 41.147313, -8.616235

Beside the church we saw the Fountain of the Lions (Fonte dos Leões), is a 19th-century fountain built by French company Compagnie Générale des Eaux pour l'Etranger, in the civil parish of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau e Vitória in municipality of Porto. It is a copy of the fountain in the Town Hall Square of Leicester, England GPS : 41.147108, -8.615597

Livraria Lello is a bookshop with an extraordinary historical and architectural value, located at the number 144 of Rua das Carmelitas and the queue to get in is so long. It is also remarked as the coolest and beautiful book store in the world. GPS : 41.146789, -8.614908

Busking is another common sight in this part of the world trying to make some dollars from it.

There is another way to see the city using this old tram operate by using electricity.

The many blue ceramic tiles on the walls in Sao bento Station is the major characteristic feature in the building and it has a lot of stories to tell. The murals represent moments in the country's history and the multi coloured panels depict rural scenes showing the people of various regions

It is located at Praça de Almeida Garrett GPS : 41.145580, -8.610707. Built in 1900, the beautiful station was named after a Benedictine monastery that once occupied its space back in the 16th century. 

Destroyed by fire in 1783, the house of worship was rebuilt but by the 19th century was torn down to make way for the expanding railway system.

More story telling under the sheltered tunnel as it was still drizzling. It was the last stop for the 3 hour free walking tour and a tip from us for the guide. A good and recommendable tour that one should commit whenever in Porto. GPS : 41.143369, -8.610902

We were back to Restaurante Nova Launda for the second time as I have said before we were madly in love in love with this 5€ set lunch, it was kind of late and we were the last customers. Thank you again the the wonderful food. That was my course of the day on my table.

At the start of Liuz I Bridge where we were heading the best spot for a good view of Porto from Gaia side.

The weather has turned out good as we enjoyed the beautiful scenery from the bridge.

Walking on the upper deck of Luís I Bridge towards Gaia side of the bridge you get to see the Metro train or tram crossing the bridge so were some bicycles.

A must try drink when in Port it is called Portonic, a drink with a mixture of tonic water, white port, lemon, rosemary. This cool place is called Terrace Cable Car GPS : 41.138147, -8.609169 with a dazzling view over Porto with a glass of Portonic in your hand.

From Gaia we had a amazing view of Porto and also the famous Ponte Liuz I

The Porto Cathedral (Portuguese: Sé do Porto) is a Roman Catholic church located in the historical centre of the city of Porto, Portugal.

 It is one of the city's oldest monuments and one of the most important local Romanesque monuments.

The statue of Vímara Peres (Vímara Pérez in Spanish; died in Galicia, 873) was a ninth-century nobleman from the Kingdom of Asturias and the first ruler of the County of Portugal.

The townhouse surrounding the cathedral, the richer will built additional floors upward as the size of the land could be increase anymore.

In the middle of the square is an ornately carved twisting stone pillory, called a pelourinho by the Portuguese. Was built in the 1800s and had a purely decorative function. No criminals were chained to it stonework to be executed or receive punishment by means of the whip. It is just there to look pretty.

As we were walking this narrow street we saw this picture of a suckling pig that attracted us to patronise this shop, ÉLoi'os Café & Snack it's located at Rua dos Caldeireiros GPS : 41.144754, -8.612450

This small place looks new and so here we were waiting for our food at the small shop.

The food was delicious but the portion was not enough to go around.

Our last place was a convenience store where we would get of food for tomorrow breakfast. Good night Porto we will be leaving Porto to Ovar tomorrow.
