Siew Yuk at Huang Kee Chicken Rice, Hong Seng Coffee Shop, Sec 17 PJ

The queue was long at the chicken rice stall when we arrived at Hong Seng Coffee Shop at Section 17, Petaling Jaya. The time was about 1.00pm on a Sunday afternoon and there was no sign of Siew Yuk anymore at the stall. We told ourselves we will do with only fried chicken and will be fine if the roast pork have already been sold out though we were disappointed.
Brian and Jason who were at the queue persistently negotiated with the main man for Siew Yuk. Both of them managed to get him to pull out a slab of the magical meat from the underneath the counter. Well done boys I had the chance to taste the famous roast pork. The skin really crackled and the meat was tender and delicious.
The fried chicken was equally gorgeous with crispy sheet of skin that just seems like loosely covering on the juicy meat.
The business was so good that we have to serve ourselves with the food, at the time while we were enjoying the food, the lady boss hung out a "Close" sign at the stall. That is one chicken rice stall that is so popular and it is worth the while to wait for the food. Check it out and have fun eating the Siew Yuk.

Oinkz Burger at Section 17 Petaling Jaya

We were attracted by a few of our cycling friends who visited this joint recently and we simply could not resist ourselves after looking at the pictures posted at Facebook and die die we wanted to try.
So we headed from home to Section 17/38 at Petaling Jaya to search for this place, it was already late, past 9pm the place was dimly lit and I thought it has already closed and had to look for alternate place to eat.
Thank goodness it was still opened but the buns were all gone so we have to eat without the bun. This was mine pork burger "Hambo" single layer of pork patty with bacon, egg, cheese, caramelised onions and fried mushroom for RM12.00
Zu Yi had one similar like mine but with 2 layers of patty and bacon and it is called "The Godfather". My son had a wonderful time with Godfather and vouched to come back to see Godfather again. By the way it is priced at RM17.00.
Mummy had "The Transporkters" and she wasn't too happy with it after trying ours. It is a breaded pork patty deep fried and served with caramilised onions and cheese for RM12.00.
Roti Babi a side order to share and a bread to replace the missing buns. Oinkz Roti Babi was good but I still prefer my burger and it is priced at RM8.00
A bowl of golden fries what went well with our sinful burgers.
Oinkz balls were too dried but my son enjoyed it, the topping is horseradish cheese sauce for RM8.00
Zu Yi sinking his teeth into the juicy homemade burger with his hands gloved and a happy father watching the son satisfying himself with the food.
The condition of the burger after several bites on Godfather, the patty is delicious, fresh, tender and juicy.
Oinkz opens from 6pm to 10pm, during the day it a typical kopitiam, on the same row as 7-11 store and sited at a corner shop lot. On the overall the burgers are yummy and worth coming back for more. Thumb up!

The Grind Burger Bar Somewhere at the fringe of Section 17 PJ

It was a Sunday afternoon after my boys' church service and normally by then they are real hungry. I took them to this place for a grind.
I was pleased with this mushroom soup. The taste the smell and the freshness of a good mushroom soup....simply love it.
Chilli pork with cheese which served with nacho....though I am not a cheese lover but I enjoyed the taste of it overall....kinda of curry minced pork lovely lovely.....
Double cheese burger the biggest among all but eaten by the youngest among us....that's not fair.
Hey Pesto! Burger, this one is with pork patty. Soft, juicy and delicious. A new item in the menu.
De Grind House Burger with the house fries ..... another pork choice by Xiang. My family just couldn't leave the pig alone.
the one with the biggest among us and he really loves it. The face tells all....
As long as the sons are happy the mother will be happy too....only the poor dad has to pay the bill .... truly ground @ the grind... :(
So this is the bar...the burger bar...no no this one is the cash counter hahaha

Like they say the burger is soft as a pillow at the grind. So you should go and check it out.

Great Char Siew @ Section 17 Petaling Jaya

The shop @ Happy Mansion.

Not so much for a day consumption, hence if you are late sorry lah you will be missing something in Section 17.
The popular char siew of this stall @ Section 17, it was sticky, sweet, tender and of course yummy. This was a choice of "half fat half lean" char siew.

Even though the roast pork is not the specialty here but it also tasted good especially the BBQ skin, I like it so much….

Fried chicken drum stick with crispy skin but juicy meat sitting on poached taugeh, it was definitely a gorgeous chicken dish.

Poached choy sum with a little bit of oil, soya sauce and fried garlic, what a lovely and crunchy veg.

Tai Chow @ Restoran Choon Yien, Sec 17 Petaling Jaya

There are so much talks and blogs on Restoran Choon Yien of Section 17, Petaling Jaya on James’s Char Siew Rice. But do you know that in the evening at the same shop they do serve simple Tai Chow dishes which are as yummy as the daytime food and it’s indeed worthy for a try. Though the evening crowd is quieter but it is definitely a nice place to eat.

Deep fried Red Snapper with Thai Style dressing of freshly cut serai, onions, parsley and chilli padi. Great dish.

This plate of stir fried Leek together with local tofu, roasted pork, prawns was very delicious. It always reminds me of my late Dad when eating this dish. His all time favourite.

Another lovely vegetable dish of bitter gourd fried with chicken.

We enjoy sitting outside the shop that evening. It was breezy and we enjoyed the Tai Chow and also the Skol Beer.

This is just opposite 6 to 10 Nasi Lemak & Grill and My Elephant is also nearby. Car parking is easy and free.

Minced meat spaghetti

What a meaty meal….

Another Beefy Discovery

It is located at Section 17 Petaling Jaya, Road 12 (17/12) at a shop called Restoran Khiasat. The operator of this beef noodle stall is Mr. Julian Cheng and acclaimed himself that his beef noodle is the best in Selangor and the only one of its kind in town.
When I placed my order with him, he immediately commented that I must be a new patron because he has never seen me before. He then recommended me his original dry noodle as seen in the photo and gave me his call card. He uses fat glass noodle for his ngau lam and with peanut and pickles in it. Never try in such a style before and as for the taste it is just average. Worth a try if you happen to be in the neighbourhood.

See here for previous ngau lam discovery in Kepong.
