Tai Chow @ Big Tree Sg Way, Petaling Jaya

Somewhere in Sg. Way Village there is this place known as "Tai Shi Tau" in Cantonese which means "the Big Tree", an eating place that is actually housed under a tree and it has been there for nearly 40 years or so. I decided to bring my cycling buddies to this unique eatery on a short bicycle ride from Bandar Utama.
Cold Tofu topped with gravy is simply good and nice.
Stir fried Kai Lan veggie with a bit of Chinese flavour was good too.
The highlight of the evening was this must try deep fried kembong fish, we had a set each which comes with a fried egg topped with enticing gravy. The fish was fresh and delicious.
Our meal with soft drinks and a pot of Chinese tea cost us less than RM15.00 each. We went off the place feeling satisfied and happy.
The happy customers of the evening.
Let's cycle & search for interesting eatery.

Restoran Subang 2 Bak Kut Teh 梳邦2好味肉骨茶

The food hunt continues with our weekly bicycle ride and one of the nights we found ourselves in Subang 2 for a home cooked food and Bak Kut Teh encounter (recommended by Johnny). The food at Subang 2 Bak Kut Teh was awesome. Fatty, the boss was waiting and getting ready to prepare the food for us. It was a pre-ordered meal by Randy and the meal was treated by him. Thank you Randy for the wonderful dinner.
The minute we entered the shop Fatty instructed his staff to start the cooking, this was our Chinese wine free range chicken soup and we surely waited patiently.
A simple stir fried white cabbage with dried shrimps, a truly home cooked style dish.
The black Bak Kut Teh with bitter gourd hidden in it, it was obviously very sinful but the taste was magnificent, the gravy went super well with our rice.... more rice please.
Another simple dish, a fried egg omelette with chopped long beans just like what we used to eat at home. I just love egg dishes.... give me more.
Nam Yue deep fried pork belly would be lovely if we were to eat it with a glass of beer.
The highlight of the dinner was the super delicious Chinese wine chicken soup, would be great if we could have more of it .... now that I am drooling as I write this blog.
For the first time I see a dish of poached cut brinjal coated with gravy un-stirred. Fatty told us to stir ourselves before we eat it and it turned out be super delicious. Thumb up Madam Liew for such a great creation.
Gino had the honour to stir the brinjal's special.
Steamed Tilapia fish with finely blended black beans sauce was yummy.
You can reach for Fatty (Liew) for further more info. Have a good fun venturing in this corner of Subang 2.

Siew Yuk at Huang Kee Chicken Rice, Hong Seng Coffee Shop, Sec 17 PJ

The queue was long at the chicken rice stall when we arrived at Hong Seng Coffee Shop at Section 17, Petaling Jaya. The time was about 1.00pm on a Sunday afternoon and there was no sign of Siew Yuk anymore at the stall. We told ourselves we will do with only fried chicken and will be fine if the roast pork have already been sold out though we were disappointed.
Brian and Jason who were at the queue persistently negotiated with the main man for Siew Yuk. Both of them managed to get him to pull out a slab of the magical meat from the underneath the counter. Well done boys I had the chance to taste the famous roast pork. The skin really crackled and the meat was tender and delicious.
The fried chicken was equally gorgeous with crispy sheet of skin that just seems like loosely covering on the juicy meat.
The business was so good that we have to serve ourselves with the food, at the time while we were enjoying the food, the lady boss hung out a "Close" sign at the stall. That is one chicken rice stall that is so popular and it is worth the while to wait for the food. Check it out and have fun eating the Siew Yuk.

Nyonya Tanjung Bunga - We are back.

The last time I blog on this restaurant Tanjung Bunga was way back in January 2012, business is still as good as usual, the younger generation has taken the restaurant for quite sometime and has been holding the fort very well. Thumb up for that.
Perut Ikan - everyone seems to like this dish very much and it bring us memories when we were living back in Penang, we used to savour this dish either from our mum's kitchen or somewhere in the island and definitely it has vouched to be still a favourite dish among us.
Thai mango salad was very appetising and everyone of us enjoyed it.
Jiu Hu Char - again we talked about my mum's Jiu Hu Char we used to eat whenever she cooked it for Chinese New Year unfortunately this time she has stopped cooking for CNY as eating out was easier when the number of people eating has mushroomed. I prefer my mum's Jiu Hu Char, the one here is slightly too wet.
Coffee spare ribs was interesting and yummy.
4 Heavenly Kings with sambal udang was also delicious comprising of lady's fingers, petai, brinjal and angle (winged) beans.
Claypot Tofu specially ordered for my father in-law something soft and tasty for him to enjoy.
Tomyam was too sour, I told them we are in a Nyonya restaurant we shouldn't have ordered Thai dishes, it's a mistake in deed.
Ever since I was young I have always enjoy prawns cooked in this way that is fried with assam but I like it fried slightly darker and drier.
This Ma Yeaw Yee did not pass my fellow companions as they were the ones behind the kitchen of Ping Wah that specailises this fried fish dish. I would think it's has to do with the freshness of the fish.

Restoran Paramount SengFatt for a Nice Tai Chow

Restoran SengFatt is located in Paramount Garden and it is an end lot with a lane by the side along Jalan 20/22. The crowd on a Saturday night seems encouraging and I reckon the food must be good and it has been at this place for quite sometime. I was impressed with its cleanliness though it is an old shop.
Claypot Tofu with lean meat, fish cake, pea, mushroom, a simple dish that everyone can eat especially the small kids.
This soy sauce chicken was everyone's favourite, the meat was tender, juicy and most importantly it was delicious.
La La clams in soup version instead of having it "kam heong" fried for a change.
Fried brinjal was the most interesting and everyone love this classically cooked dish. It was not oily and the taste was fabulous.
There is one dish that is popular here in Sengfatt and it is their clay pot fish, you can choose song yee, tilapia, or grouper. We tried the grouper, the broth was unique, spicy and tasty.
Nam Yee 南乳 deep fried pork a fermented red bean curd flavoured meat nicely sliced, slightly pungent but interesting to eat.

Oinkz Burger at Section 17 Petaling Jaya

We were attracted by a few of our cycling friends who visited this joint recently and we simply could not resist ourselves after looking at the pictures posted at Facebook and die die we wanted to try.
So we headed from home to Section 17/38 at Petaling Jaya to search for this place, it was already late, past 9pm the place was dimly lit and I thought it has already closed and had to look for alternate place to eat.
Thank goodness it was still opened but the buns were all gone so we have to eat without the bun. This was mine pork burger "Hambo" single layer of pork patty with bacon, egg, cheese, caramelised onions and fried mushroom for RM12.00
Zu Yi had one similar like mine but with 2 layers of patty and bacon and it is called "The Godfather". My son had a wonderful time with Godfather and vouched to come back to see Godfather again. By the way it is priced at RM17.00.
Mummy had "The Transporkters" and she wasn't too happy with it after trying ours. It is a breaded pork patty deep fried and served with caramilised onions and cheese for RM12.00.
Roti Babi a side order to share and a bread to replace the missing buns. Oinkz Roti Babi was good but I still prefer my burger and it is priced at RM8.00
A bowl of golden fries what went well with our sinful burgers.
Oinkz balls were too dried but my son enjoyed it, the topping is horseradish cheese sauce for RM8.00
Zu Yi sinking his teeth into the juicy homemade burger with his hands gloved and a happy father watching the son satisfying himself with the food.
The condition of the burger after several bites on Godfather, the patty is delicious, fresh, tender and juicy.
Oinkz opens from 6pm to 10pm, during the day it a typical kopitiam, on the same row as 7-11 store and sited at a corner shop lot. On the overall the burgers are yummy and worth coming back for more. Thumb up!

B & Best Restaurant - Seafood Noodles

Jo was asking me where am I going to bring her and her father for breakfast, well B & Best Restaurant came to my thought while I was on DUKE highway on the way to SS2 and I reckoned that that would be a perfect place for my elderly father in-law.
I like these fish balls fresh and bouncy for RM7.00 (10 balls).
This was my favourite, a red snapper soup clear and tasty. Most importantly it's fresh and yummy.
The grouper (Loong Tan) was the premium of all, fish meat with chewy tough skin that was priced at RM21.00
The father and daughter had the same kind of noodles, dry "kon loh" koay teow & mee with tasty lard toppings which all in all was very delicious.
I love the kon loh smooth rice noodle "koay teow" and the amount was just right for my breakfast.
Two happy customers enjoying their food without any complaint at all.
The main man was very busy with no facial expression and words from him, everything seems to be optimally within his reach and a perfect work station indeed.
The menu hanging from the ceiling that might help you judge the kind of pricing at this place.
Just in case you wanted to look at our bill with GST included.
