Delicious Wan Tan Mee @ Jalan Pahang / Jalan Bidor

I was told of this place of late and was pre warned that the taking of order is not of norm. You don't have to walk to the stall and request for your food. They will come to you. If you do so they will tell you be seated first and wait....

Delicious Wan Tan Mee with braised chicken feet, char siu and gorgeous wantan dumplings.
This Old Master enjoys his work by the look of his movement and stance he displays. He surely got a peculiar character.

Tawakal Hokkien Mee @ Aik Yuen Kopitiam

It was a Saturday evening and time for a dinner, there was no food @ home and there were only 3 of us at home. I decided to take the 2 young ones to Jalan Pahang (near Tawakal Hospital) for some fried noodles.

The boys find the place interesting with lot of customers and sitting at the road sides. A typical Malaysian street food scene.
We anticipated that our Hokkien mee would come out late and we "taupau" / pack a Mee Goreng fried by an Indian lady at a nearby stall. We reckoned it has to be good cos it's not being fried by any foreigner like a Myanmar but by an Indian lady. Truly the mee goreng was lovely. We were satisfied with her fried noodle.
Business has been brisk here but the entire place looks disarrayed, dish washing just next to you at the corridor of the shop house and the drinks are prepared at the corridor. Everything looks temporary. I was initially very pleased with the service we had our fish cake reasonably fast and followed by with our Cantonese fried noodle.
Delicious fried (saito) fish cake with golden skin and bouncy bites.
Cantonese Fried Noodle was also yummy.
The only thing you dislike about place is the cleanliness, waiting attitude and cook smoking while at the woks. I would suggest that you just close one eye and enjoy the food like we do.
The Hokkien mee was undeniably awesome and everyone of us like the taste of the Hokkien Mee even though the fried noodle came pretty late.

Mee Bandung Muar @ Jalan Pahang Barat, KL.

Since the days we started our project in Muar I have begin to appreciate the lovely taste of Mee Bandung Muar. My first try of Mee Bandung Muar was at this shop at Jalan Kesang in Muar. Then Danny Chan has informed me of this shop serving good Mee Bandung Muar in Kuala Lumpur and so here I am at Restoran Z ‘n’ N for a plate of Mee Bandung Muar. Restoran Z ‘n’ N is actually located at Jalan Pahang Barat which is two doors away from Restoran Haslam.

The Mee Bandung here is sweet and tasty but not as thick and delicious as the one found in Muar. Yet it could be one of the best in Kuala Lumpur as far as Mee Bandung is concerned.
There are slices of beef, an egg, tofu, Sotong and vegetable (sawi) in this plate of Mee Bandung Muar (RM5.50), basically quite a generous amount of ingredients in it. It is a good noodle worth trying.

Genuine Malay food @ Restoran Haslam, Kuala Lumpur

He started off working as a bus conductor then turned an actor, a film director, a film producer and also a restaurateur, what an achievement by this man Dato’ Yusof Haslam. Here we are, at his restaurant for genuine Malay food located at Jalan Pahang (btw that’s also his birth place).

There is a wide range of choices of yummy foods at the servery counter.
At the wall of the air conditioned space. Four of us paid a visit to Restoran Haslam and every one of us chose differently for our “nasi campur” mixed rice.

Goreng Ayam Kampung (fried chicken) with ikan billis (anchovies) & veggies - Choice No.1

Sambal petai with prawns and Ikan Cermin as Choice No.2

A steamed kembong fish with lovely sauce.

Choice No 3 - Sambal Petai with fried taugeh and Ulam.

Choice No. 4 - Sambal Petai with prawn, salted egg & veggie.

A colourful glass of iced sirup drink.
It looks like sambal petai with prawns is the hot favourite for most of us. What about you?

Chapati Near Tawakal Hospital Kuala Lumpur

Chapati for a Monday breakfast at Restoran Santa Sweet House was a good choice indeed. This is my re-visit to this shop after a long time. Malaysia has a wide range of foods to choose and of so many ethnic foods; indeed we are fortunate people in this part of the world. So don’t complain so much just enjoy your lives here.

But for the same order I had previously on 13 September 2007 the price has went up by 25% (from RM4.00 to RM5.00). Our incomes don’t seem to increase just like the food prices therefore we should eat more chapatti or roti canai especially during this economic crisis.

As mentioned previously, this shop is located at Jalan Sarikei (Off Jalan Pahang), Setapak Kuala Lumpur. To view previous posting of this shop please click here.

Li Man Jia Seafood Restaurant @ Pekeliling Road – Revisit

This shop is located along Tun Razak Road (formerly known as Pekeliling Road or Circular Road) near Titiwangsa LRT Station. We were sitting outside the shop next to the heavily traffic road but protected by a steel railing and also half sunken from the road side (reckon it will be safe in case of any car accident) .

I like this delicious fried noodle (Beehoon) with stewed pork belly here, unlike other shops they are not so generous with the meat portion.

Oysters fried with eggs or rather oyster omelette was also yummy.

Red snapper fish cooked with preserved bean sauce.

Fried Hokkien Mee at Restoran Loong Kee located at Jalan Pahang opposite Kuala Lumpur General Hospital and near Grand Seasons Hotel. The popular fried noodle of Kuala Lumpur fat yellow noodle fried with lot of oil and lard. This is my first time trying with a raw egg on it. Well. Simply delicious.
Bak Kee Th’ng another Hokkien delicay simple and nice. A bowl of soup with sawi vegetable (chai sim) and pork with light starch coating. Another sinful food, roast pork fried with chilli padi and dark soya sauce. A dish which goes perfectly with drink. Fried Pek Koay also a Hokkien dish, good and yummy… Fried asparugus with belacan (prawn paste).

Famous Chapati Shop @ Jalan Sarikei, Kuala Lumpur

After blogging early this morning in the house and on the way to Naza Workshop along Jalan Pahang, I decided to "break my fast" at a sikh shop famous for their chapati. The name of this shop is called “Restoran Santa Sweet House”. It is located behind Tawakal Hospital along Jalan Pahang. Very popular place among chapati lovers or the sikh community. I believe if you just mention this famous chapati shop to any sikhs in town, they will acknowledge the fact and would further recommend similar good chapati shop in and around KL, such as the one behind Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (this particular one, you have to enter from the back, ha . ha..no joke). Apparently, these two shops are related and really serve good chapati.

I took a chapati, a slice of curry tenggiri fish and supplemented with thick daal gravy (normally you will get watery gravy from typical mamak shop). This meal cost me exactly RM4.00 including a glass of Nescafe 'O' kurang manis. Chapati is definitely a good and healthy food, no oil, highly recommended for those having heart ailment, high cholesterol, etc, etc. and 100% HEALTHIER than Bak Kut Teh.
