We Like A Chai's Cooking at Batam Island

We found a good eating place near where we were staying (Harmoni Hotel) at Nagoya. And the shop is called "Kedai Kopi New Holiday". We patronized the place twice. Ah Chai is the owner cum cook of this place and his food is generally simple yet gorgeous.
We like his cooking and the freshness of the seafood, without any objection from the group to ask him to prepare for our following day’s lunch.

This is a common sight of a typical eatery place in Batam Island where air conditioned shops are rare.

Tam, Tan, Ting, Tay, myself and Paul Chua checking the bill with A Chai after our good lunch at New Holiday.

Tan, Tay, Chan and Allen Yuen chatting while waiting for the food to come.

K.L. Tan organising a separate mode of play for our golf game at Southlinks Golf Course.

A Chai at work.

A Chai showing us the freshness of the seafood and this one was our sole fish.

The serving of Chinese tea is different from Malaysia, the tea leaves are in small pellets and kept in plastic bag. A glass of hot water served with a plastic cover. That's your Chinese tea, Sir.

Grouper fish head meant for our curry dish.

There were a variety for fresh seafood available here and we took the 4 crabs.

These were the dishes we savoured from this simple kitchen.

A before and after steaming of the delicious crabs.

Stir fried bean sprouts with salted fish.
Sole fish was fried and served with preserved bean it is a popular Teochew cuisine.

This is the wonderful curry fish head and a taste of Batam Sambal Belacan (slightly different from Malaysia but it tasted good).

Just like our Muar Otak Otak and the cone shape plain rice is unique.

Free Range Chicken cooked with Sesame oil and soy sauce. Calamari fried with onions.

This was our first day's order - a steamed fish head fresh and tasty.

Ikan Bakar from the other stall and A Chai's seafood soup.

Welcome to Batam Island, INDONESIA

Leaving the Island of the Lion City. One of the ferries to Batam Island.

These are the documents required to enter Batam Island and of course your passport. At the departure hall.

A view from the ferry into the jetty where you alight onto the boat. At the open air and upper deck of the "Jet Raider".

Welcome to Batam Island, everything was smoothly arranged by the local tour agent. A fridge & a T.V. in the bus. There are several landing points in Batam Island and we disembarked at Sekupang.

A Dinner at Singapore Cricket Club (新加坡板球俱乐部)

After the competition we proceeded to Singapore Cricket Club for a good fellowship dinner. The clubhouse is located at the famous Padang of Singapore’s Business Centre.

At our table were (from left) James, Dr. Jekinder Singh, myself, our good host Yap Giau Peck, Jeff, Nick and Soo Weng Heng.

The Convenor of the Golf Section of SCC Lim Khoon at the second right and Elizabeth Nair. Thank you SCC.

My prize for this competition.

RSC versus SCC - the result.....

And the winner was RSC with an overall score of 11-3. We shall see you again in Malaysia next year.

We were fortunate to have a view of a rehearsal for the coming National Day of Singapore at the Padang.

Interport 2010 Between Singapore Cricket Club & Royal Selangor Club

This is my first time playing golf in the Lion City and it was an Interport Competition between Singapore Cricket Club and Royal Selangor Club.

We left Kuala Lumpur at 6.30 in the morning and reached Marina Bay Golf Course at 12.30pm, it was raining all the way down to south and it was still raining when we arrived at the Golf Course. Marina Bay Golf Course Golf is a beautiful golf course it is about 4 years old plus with prominent and scenic views like Marina Bay Sands & Eye on Singapore.

My flight was scheduled to tee off at 13:56 and by the time we teed off the weather turned perfect, a slight drizzle at the beginning but thereafter it was a cooling weather all the way. What a wonderful day to play golf. I even forgot wearing my sun tan lotion.
Our friendly opponents were Ajaib Haridass and Yap Giau Peck of SCC. My partner of the day was Jeff Hoh Wing.
The another flight in front of us were Robert Schreve, Simon Bird, Tay Tiong Hin and Soon Weng Heng.

Haridass executing a drive at the Tee box. A typical bunker of this golf course and a No.1 characteristic here at Marina Bay GC.

Jeff the most senior golfer at this Tee box showing off his swing. Fellowship time at the buggy.

Giau Peck's monstrous swing to the green. Putting for dough on a beautiful Friday. My score was 46 & 42. (a lot of puts were generously given to me).
I hope to come back to play here again in the near future.
