Merchant's Lane 美真林 - A Great Place to Chill

It was Sunday and after a short outing at the KL Car Free morning we went scouting for food in the city. We decided to visit Merchant's Lane again.
Soo was gamed for a hefty meal and had Breakfast comprising of fried eggs on toasts, chicken sausage, baked bean, hash brown, sauteed mushroom and cherry tomatoes.
Jason got himself a cake and a coffee
While I got myself something to share together with a cup of lemongrass & ginger drink.
Port Klang - Battered deep fried calamari, dory fish and prawns served with sweet chili sauce
I love this trendy place and I got to know that it was a brothel in the early years. Hat off to a group of youngsters whom took this venture and made this awesome hideout possible.

Walk a mile for a Healthy Congee at Chinatown Kuala Lumpur

I was troubled by the possible consequences of high blood pressure and also the doctors' advice on the kind of food I should eat. I walked a mile or more to a shop called "Kedai Hon Kee" and treated myself a bowl of RM6.00 fish congee.

Kedai Hon Kee has been in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur since 1949 and is still standing there to serve you congee or porridge. That is a long time indeed.

It comes in two servings, one is the slices of raw fish (Grass Carp) and a bowl of hot congee. There are also other kind of porridge sold here too.

I just want to make sure that the fish is really cooked, I dumped the entire plate of raw fish into the hot congee. The slices of fish changed colour and definitely it's cooked. What a way to start my day with a healthy meal in Chinatown.

After a satisfying breakfast at the Street of Petaling, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

Breakfast @ Kuala Lumpur Chinatown

Looking for a place to eat breakfast in Kuala Lumpur Chinatown, well you can visit this eating place at Tang City Food Court.

There are a variety of foods for you to choose. In the morning you can see a number of local senior citizens breaking their fast here some of them might have just finished their morning exercise and some might have just sit in for their daily routine meal.

A black coffee to start off together with a bite of Dim Sum before a bowl of noodle is served on my table.

Jo loves her beef noodle.

The beef noodle here is one the famous foods in Tang City Food Court but the stock looks too plain in the early morning. Probably this was the first bowl of the day.

My Prawn Mee of the Kuala Lumpur version. The soup is plain but tasty. I was having a slight hang over and a soup like this is an excellent relief for hang over.

Hokkien Mee aka Tai Lok Mee @ Chinatown, KL

School holiday is over, it’s already back to school and it is the first weekend of the New Year we were gamed for our first movie of the year. These were the few movies under consideration for the night, Sherlock Holmes, Avatar or Old Dogs. We headed to TGC CapSquare KL and could only decide at the cinema as to what we shall watch including what to eat before the show. We decided we will watch Sherlock Holmes but no time for dinner just pop corns and soft drinks. We enjoyed Mr. Holmes’s crime solving adventure.

We then left London to Mr. Holmes’s good hands and went over to Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur for food. I brought my family to “Kim Lian Kee” the famous fried noodles stall located just opposite Hong Leong Bank. The time was prefect, it was just after the closing of the night market and the best time to visit the food stalls. The business at Kim Lian Kee was as usual as good as ever, atmosphere was also good as you breathe in the air of a typical Chinatown. Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur has its own beautiful characteristic and a place to reckon to visit if you have not been to this place before.

We tried 3 types of noodle and the favourite among all was this “Loh Mee” everyone gave a thumb up for the “Loh Mee”. Some like it with vinegar for extra oomph & flavour.

I was particularly craving for their fried “Mee Suah” which you could hardly find it anywhere else. Somehow I am amazed as how they could cleverly fry this “mee suah” as this noodle is very brittle and easily loses it form when being fried in the wok.

The “Bak Kee Th’ng” starch coated pork meat soup was good but not the best.

I just couldn’t believe it the fried Hokkien mee was below my expectation. I expected it to be very good after watching the Jason Yeoh’s show “Ho Chiak”, Ah Chay's Hokkien Mee at Danau Kota can easily beats our friend here in Chinatown.

That was it. My responsibility as a father to feed my family cum a Sherlock Holmes night was accomplished with a 100% satisfaction.

Congee @ Chinatown - Petaling Street Kuala Lumpur

Many would relate congee in the morning at Chinatown to “Hon Kee” porridge, the one which has a lot of write ups but I am going to introduce you another stall in Chinatown and I think many do not know about this place. Thanks to Harry Chan for sharing this gem.

It is situated the back lane of Petaling Street and one of the access to this stall is from here at Jalan Sultan. This back lane leads to a food court next the Chinatown wet market.

This small bowl of congee with pork parts (Chee Chop Choke) and added on with fresh slice fish which cost RM5.00. It was a satisfying breakfast at the back alley of Kuala Lumpur Chinatown.

This Uncle operates at a very relax pace some say at a “Lan See” pace. The stall closes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wow.... And only opens on the rest of the days. Wonderful isn’t it.

Bye Bye to Lai Foong's Prawn Mee

It is farewell to Aunty’s Prawn Mee at Kedai Kopi Lai Foong ( Jalan H.S. Lee) and we, the prawn mee lovers, will surely miss her noodle.
She has been serving her Prawn Noodle for the last 35 years or so and has eventually called it QUIT.
She is now enjoying her life at home with her grandchildren and may we wish her “All the Best for her new chapter of Life”.
I can only now close my eyes and imagine the lovely taste of her gorgeous noodle.

Famous Congee @ China Town Kuala Lumpur

Famous fish congee at Petaling Street or the China Town of Kuala Lumpur. Yeaw Cha Kuay is also available to go with the congee.
A mere and simple signage of this famous eatery place.

It is just opposite of this Bank, Hong Leong.

Deep fried pig intestine, crispy and tasty.

Waxed meats for coming Chinese New Year.
