Cycle Malaysia Day 22 Kuala Terengganu

It was a lovely mornng we took a stroll to the nearby resorts along the beach while many were still asleep.

The famous inn at Laguna Redang used for a Chinese movie More More Tea Inn 夏日麽麽茶 in 2000 that made Pulau Redang popular. This building has been rebuilt and continues to attract visitors.

It was great to be with these two brothers How and Roger Foo. Though we have aged but we are still going strong.

So nice to see the whole of the Foo's family sending us off from the jetty, til then we shall meet again. Good bye and adios.

The boat was full of China visitors where we "tumpang" the ride to leave the island earlier and it started to rain.

Meeting friendly cyclists along the way to Kuala Terengganu and we had short conversation checking each others' routes.

I continued to see beautiful beaches as I toured in this part of Malaysia and it can never be boring at all.

After more than 30km we reached Kuala Terengganu International Airport where Jason has to catch a flight back to KL. Thank you Jason for your company and I will see you again when I reach Melaka.

The view from Sultan Mahmud Bridge as I was about to enter Kuala Terengganu. My immediate destination was to visit the Crystal Mosque. It could seen from the bridge but it seems near yet it is far from sight.

Welcome to Kuala Terengganu with Bukit Besar in front of the busy street.

As I got closer to the mosque at Taman Tamadun Islam (Islam Heritage Park) where you could find scaled-down replicas of 22 famous monuments from various part of the world.

A grand structure made of steel, glass and crystal. The mosque is located at Islamic Heritage Park on the island of Wan Man. The mosque was constructed between 2006 and 2008. It was officially opened on 8 February 2008 by 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu. It has the capacity to accommodate over 1,500 worshipers at a time.

After visiting the Islamic Heritage Park I slowly inched myself closer to Chinatown and to look for a place to stay.

I enjoyed myself seeing the surrounding of Kampung Cina as I was scouting for a hotel.

Ho Ann Kiong Chinese Temple is the oldest temple in Kuala Terengganu it is believed to date back to 1801. One of the buildings in Chinatown declared a heritage site by the United Nations UNESCO World Monument Watch Programme.

It looks like another making of Jonker's walk in the east coast. Well done and keep it up.

I was fortunate to come to KT during the Peranakan Festival, the whole of the Chinatown was lively and impressive.

There were many tables in Town City Food Court enjoying this fried beehon, I found a seat and ordered mine too. The order took a while but it was worth the wait, it was super delicious and not wonder it's so popular. That's was a lovely dinner.

Though it was drizzling but it never failed to deter the people from coming out on the street. The female Peranakan is fondly known as Mek while the male as Awang.

Calligraphy is one of the many activities seen there were others like Mek Beauty contest, Mek fashion show and other performances during the Peranakan Festival. There were also many food of different kind from the various cultures.

That was it the day in Kuala Terengganu after coming from Merang Jetty over a distance of 54km.

Cycle Malaysia Day 21 Pulau Redang

We were lucky to find a warong selling Nasi Kerabu very near the place where we staying and the nasi kerabu was delicious and satisfying. Well today there wouldn't be any long haul cycling but a break at the paradise island.

After our breakfast we cycled to Merang Jetty, the weather was prefect and we are ready for Redang Island.

Payment of RM5.00 for the marine conservation fund which is meant for preservation work of the marine park found around the island.

Jason was a happy man it was his first time to Pulau Redang and he love the detour.

The boat ride took us in less than an hour to reach together with a group of visitors from Kuala Lumpur.

Finally we have landed at the shore of Redang Pelangi Resort with our bicycles.

It's good news again a chance to cycle in a kampong in Pulau Redang. I was so happy to meet my old friends the Foo's brothers and Dr. Khoo in the island. After a short rest at the resort, we followed Dr.Khoo on a boat ride to Kampong Baru Pulau Redang

Dr. Khoo and the rest went to a job site and while we went for a bicycle exploration instead.

Though I have visited Pulau Redang several times but I have never been to this part of the island. What a lovely day in a tranquil country side with our bicycles.

Basically we were just cutting across the island from Pulau Redang Jetty to the other end where The Taaras Beach and Spa Resort is situated. The distance is about 10km to and fro.

We braved in further after the resort on a off road trail which lead us to a seaside.

What a beautiful scene on a white beach with blue sky and sea in the shade of blue. And what more sitting on the Brompton with a refreshing coconut drink.

We stopped by at a stall in the kampong for apom balik and rojak for lunch.

The monitor lizard at the island is huge and calm, not like those you see in the city where they always panicky whenever they see people.

Time to take a dip in the crystal clear water and even up my tan.

With a piece of bread you could experience the fishes nipping at your hand.

In the evening we just relax at the bar had a few beers and relax chatting with my old friends. Today it was a kind of holiday for me where I took off from my touring plan and indeed a wonderful time in Pulau Redang.
