Restoran Long Kee Teow Chew Seafood @ Seri Gombak

We were on our usual Wednesday evening exploring cycle-able routes and hunting for good food in the city of Kuala Lumpur. This time around we targeted Seri Gombak and its surrounding starting from our regular base at Titiwangsa.

We trailed along residential and kampong roads passing by places like Titiwangsa, Air Panas, Taman Genting, Danau Kota, Kg. Sg. Mulia and Taman Selaseh before arriving at Restoran Long Kee Teow Chew Seafood at Seri Gombak. These were dishes recommended by Richard & Jerry.

I like this most, steamed sting ray fish that was fresh and yummy.
Grouper fish cutlets fried with "chai poh" (preserved vegetable) was also delicious and a favourite among everyone of us.
Prawn fritters was interesting it was kind of special that came with a sweet chili sauce.
Oily stir fried brinjal with dried small shrimps was good and delicious too.
Mantis prawns deep fried with salted egg not a favorite dish for me.
The damage for 6 of us.
After a good meal at Long Kee we headed to Metropolitan Batu Park and back to Lake Titiwangsa on a different route for the evening. I was glad my fellow buddies enjoyed the ride and the makan. Let's hunt for more amazing foods with our bicycles.

Restoran Yau Choy at Jalan Puchong, Taman Kinrara

It was a Wednesday evening we were on our usual weekly ride exploring places in Klang Valley. Originally we wanted to try out the famous curry fish head near the Giant (formerly Bintang Supermarket) but unfortunately it was closed. Our local buddy Soo was quick and suggested an alternative eatery which was nearby and that was how I came across Yau Choy Restaurant. It is located at the old Puchong Road (7 1/2 Miles).
Poached kampong chicken was yummy which was served chopped ginger sauce. Everyone was super happy with the first dish.
Then came a plate of stir fried celery with roasted pork. I like it the taste was was just perfect and went well with my plain rice.
Lam Yee deep fried pork belly seems to be a popular dish at Yau Choy Restaurant but I think there are better ones in town.
Tofu fried with fresh prawns was gorgeous and it was empty pretty fast.
The next was a seafood cuisine and it was a fried squid, nothing fantastic but palatable.
Stir fried kangkong passed the mark, it was good and prefect.
This steamed tilapia was the grand finale it was delicious and the best among the dishes. The meat was tender, well prepared by the cook and everyone simply love it.
This dessert was a great dessert it was served warm and not too sweet. That's a great way to end our lovely dinner at Jalan Puchong.
That was it, a satisfying meal which was rather sumptuous and it was surely worth the while to cycle 18km for the food. We took a different route back and enjoyed visiting the old town of Petaling Jaya.

Restoran Meng Kee 明记家乡小食, Old Klang Road

Restoran Meng Kee is located at Jalan Kelang Lama on the main road itself and is directly opposite The Scott Garden. We were there on a Wednesday evening after 15km of cycling from Lake Titiwangsa. The food was ordered and served unexpectedly fast.
A pot of stewed black soy sauce pork trotter together hard boiled eggs was the first lovely dish on the table and it was good though sinful but irresistible.
Poached lettuce simple yet nice to eat and a compulsory green on the table.
This steamed la la clam dish is gorgeous, fresh and yummy. The gravy is heavenly, another recommended dish to indulge when in Meng Kee.
A portion of herbal kampong chicken was good but nothing to really spectacular about it.
Delicious steamed fish head with finely chopped ginger together with a little of chopped chili padi on the top. We enjoyed it to the max leaving only the bone behind. No wonder it is their signature dish.
Car parking at this area could be challenging but not for us we came with our bicycles hence there is no issue at all. Happy food hunting, enjoy the awesome Tai Chow food and reasonable pricing at Meng Kee. By the way, on the way back to Titiwangsa before the Federal Highway intersection I saw another similar shop "Restoran Meng Kee" I guess it is their branch outlet.

Restoran Woo Ng Kee the Old School of Chinese Cuisine in Kuala Lumpur

It's Lai Yoong & Wei Xiang's birthday and thank you to Lai Yoong for inviting us for a sumptuous makan at this old restaurant at Taman Eshan, Kepong.
This is one of the oldest restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, they still serve traditional dishes like cold dish of jellied chicken with other ingredients. Restoran Woo Ng Kee has been in the business for more than 60 years they started from a road side stall in Pudu. Today they are hidden in an old development in Taman Eshan, Kepong.
Stir fried Kai Lan with minced meat and preserved veggie a.k.a Mei Lan, Mei Lan, Wo Ai Ni" (梅蘭梅蘭,我爱你). Simple yet delicious.
Claypot of Kangkong veggie.
Garoupa Fish Head Soup (沙窝鱼头) - The broth is so tasty with natural sweetness from the concoctions of ingredients, together with a lovely feel of rice wine (Shao Hsing Hua Tiao Chiew 绍兴花雕酒). My best bet for the evening, I like the lovely flavour of herbs.
A dish of exciting sea maw, mushrooms and green veggie.
Braised pork knuckle - popularly known as Pig & Dog Friends" (猪朋狗友) which was sinful but yummy. Many years ago dog meat might be popular among some of the customers but not in this present day.
Pei Pa Aromatic Duck (枇杷烧鸭) was tender and delicious.

Dragon Phoenix Seafood @ Genting Cafe, Farlim, Penang.

It was time to go back to Penang with my family on a Chinese New Year break together with my mum & sister we visited Dragon Phoenix Seafood at Kedai Makanan Dan Minuman Genting, Farlim. This was my second visit to this eatery and I quite like the food here.
Curry grouper fish was very appetising, the fish was fresh and I enjoyed it very much and finished my plain rice in a pretty fast manner mostly on this dish itself.
Fried Kangkong (water spinach) Belacan was tasty with a good crunchiness from it.
Normally we would order our favourite belacan fried chicken but this time around we opted for another version of fried chicken marinated with fermented bean curd and it tasted as equally awesome.
Clay pot fried Tofu coated with minced meat gravy making it delicious and a favourite among my boys.
Kind of sweet and sour pork ribs a dish where the grandma has her way to pamper her grandsons. They simply love this meat.
Special fried wantan dumpling to usher the coming Chinese New Year celebration, it was yummy, juicy in the inside and a super crispy skin. Indeed a good choice.
Well everything here is good and the pricing is also very reasonable. Thumb up to Dragon Phoenix Seafood.

Restoran Home Cooking at Sungai Way Village

I was looking forward eating the Char Siew as I had heard so much about it but to my disappointment it was sold out by the time we reached Sungai Way Village and it has to be a next visit for this marvel.
This eating place is a corner house near an Indian temple from the outside you wouldn't think it is a restaurant it's only when you step in you will register it as a eating house but not many table in it.
A simple stir fried tapioca leaves with garlic.
Half a bird of free range chicken, tough and chewy that makes a perfect indulgence of eating a delicious kampong chicken.
A pre-cooked curry pork ribs spicy and appetising
Deep fried Threadfin fish (Ma Yau) that was perfectly fried crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside with finely shredded ginger topping and soy sauce. It's truly yummy and what a simple home cooked dish.
Take note of these slots of the week with Monday on a half day basis and Tuesday is off day.
Somewhere nearby the famous Ah Sang Bak Kut Teh is also around this corner.

Restoran Paramount SengFatt for a Nice Tai Chow

Restoran SengFatt is located in Paramount Garden and it is an end lot with a lane by the side along Jalan 20/22. The crowd on a Saturday night seems encouraging and I reckon the food must be good and it has been at this place for quite sometime. I was impressed with its cleanliness though it is an old shop.
Claypot Tofu with lean meat, fish cake, pea, mushroom, a simple dish that everyone can eat especially the small kids.
This soy sauce chicken was everyone's favourite, the meat was tender, juicy and most importantly it was delicious.
La La clams in soup version instead of having it "kam heong" fried for a change.
Fried brinjal was the most interesting and everyone love this classically cooked dish. It was not oily and the taste was fabulous.
There is one dish that is popular here in Sengfatt and it is their clay pot fish, you can choose song yee, tilapia, or grouper. We tried the grouper, the broth was unique, spicy and tasty.
Nam Yee 南乳 deep fried pork a fermented red bean curd flavoured meat nicely sliced, slightly pungent but interesting to eat.
