Revisit to Restoran Kolam Ikan Bukit Tinggi June 2014 有间饭店

After a strenuous adventure riding from Genting Sempah to Janda Baik and finally making our way to Bukit Tinggi Village for a lunch. I recommended an eating place at the fringe of the village Restoran Kolam Ikan to the group, it's conducive and not crowded if you compare it to the others at the main street. My previous visit could be good enough to warrant this recommendation for this group of cycling buddies, confidently I brought them to this quiet corner and hoping that they will enjoy the food.
Bukit Tinggi has been well known for its good food catering for patrons from all over the nearby resorts such as Bukit Tinggi, Janda Baik, Genting Highlands and some on their way back to Kuala Lumpur from East Coast.
The four heavenly kings mixed vegetables stir fried with sambal belacan was really crunchy & delicious. Most of the vegetables are grown at Bukit Tinggi itself and are good and fresh ..... we simply love biting & chewing these awesome greens.
A hot clay pot of thinly sliced pork belly with salted fish was so powerful  that it doubled up our appetite ... more plain rice please (kar fun!)...
We started off with a home made Tofu topped with minced meat but this plate was not enough to go around for everyone hence a second plate was requested .... it was either we were too hungry or the tofu must be good. I think it was both.

Minced meat omelette to ensure sufficient food were on the table for 18 super hungry tummies and not wanting to spend too much on the meal.
Nyonya steamed tilapia was gorgeous nothing was left behind from this dish. The fish, vegetables and pineapples were fresh and yummy.... what a great dish.
Steamed kampong chicken served with grated local Bentong ginger.
The most expensive dish among those on the table a simple soya sauce steamed Patin fish. Not too bad but I think everyone of us preferred the earlier Nyonya's ....
Steam egg with minced meat was a bit too wet, I would prefer it a drier with a red salted yoke poking out just like a home cooked type by mum.
The satisfied faces after a happy meal
It was time for us be back on our saddles again to Genting Sempah. Most of us had to push our bikes on the super steep road from the village to the old Bentong road before we could actually cycle and it was a hot day indeed. Fortunately it was a short ride and the road was mostly covered with many canopy trees. All ended up well and safe till then we shall meet again for new exploration.

A Ride from Genting Sempah to Janda Baik

Janda Baik is a kampong on a highland in the District of Bentong Pahang, a Malay Reserve land located on the slopes of the Main Range and it is about 600 meters above sea level. The weather is comfortable with many greenery and flowers.... and our game plan was to ride to Janda Baik from Genting Sempah. Thanks to Harry Chan for initiating and leading us to an amazing destination.
The response was good despite it was a short notice I decided to join the group the very morning itself.
A total of 16 of us appeared for this ride but there are only 15 in this group picture, the No.16 was Christopher Lee who cycled from home, Sri Gombak my salute to him....
The distance to Janda Baik from Genting Sempah is about 16km though it was short but it had several challenging climbs to tackle.
Our first stop at a forest reserve rest area.
Hutan Lipur Konifer is recreational natural park at the entrance gate of Janda Baik. We did not go in this time but we might consider to visit it next time.
One of the steep climbs before entering Kampong Janda Baik.
Bike pushing is no shame so long as we can reach our destination and have fun.
This cooling land is popular among bikers, cyclists and visitors staying at the many homestay houses or resorts.
A spot where an ice cream man was very happy serving these dehydrated cyclists.
Here we were at a secluded river with cool and clean water. This is the entrance bridge to a resort and that was our picnic spot.
It was back to childhood days where we enjoyed having fun with the chilling water.
I had some nice moment capturing these beautiful small dragon flies. They were really friendly indeed.

Well this would be one of the best places we have visited with our bicycles ...  beautiful Janda Baik truly amazing we should patronise these resorts more instead of spending our money overseas.

The awesome 16 riders.
After the wonderful time at Janda Baik we headed to Bukit Tinggi Village (which has turned into a "commercialised" eating and marketing venue) for our lunch.
Business is always lively during weekends and public holidays ... prices might not be cheaper if you compare with Kuala Lumpur but in the spirit of buying and spending some money during holidays ... why not.
Patric bought some vegetable back home ... bro, you still have room in your panniers how about some old Bentong ginger...
A lunch at a lesser crowded restaurant in Bukit Tinggi village.
Check here for a posting of my previous visit to Restoran Kolam Ikan, Bukit Tinggi.
All tummies being satisfied, all places seen for the day and it's time to climb back to our base ... reluctantly as usual after a good lunch we pedaled back and surely as usual we were safely back homes.
I met Freeman, my business associate who were also in Bukit Tinggi together with his family after their weekly outdoor activities, Ever since I poisoned him with bicycles he is not looking back at all and they are everywhere seeing places with 2 wheels most of the time during the weekends & public holidays.  .... Well done Freeman!!!
The 33km route we sweated and marked for the day.

Restoran Kolam Ikan 有间饭店 @ Bukit Tinggi Village, Pahang

It was on the second day of Chinese New Year 2013, after a day trip to Genting Highlands I took my family members to Bukit Tinggi village for a late lunch. And I remembered a friend who told me about this new place.
We were surprised that there were so many shops opened for business during this Chinese New Year holidays and were glad that the one we wanted to visit was opened too.
It is located opposite BP petrol station right immediately after going through the tunnel underneath Karak Highway on your left.

This dish is very common in Bukit Tinggi, fried crispy thin slices of pork belly coated with sweet sauce. Good leh.
Marmite chicken for the boys & girls, they just love it.
A slimy and leafy green veggie called "Tian Chak". I always enjoy its succulency of this vegetable.
Field frog fried with slices of famous Bentong ginger was another gorgeous dish.
This fish is called "Kelah" was the best among all the dishes, it was sweet and fresh. Of course the most costly on the table.
Another plate of vegetable, the 4 Heavenly Kings comprising of petai, french beans, angle beans and brinjals. Sinful but delicious.
The sambal was fantastic too just do not forget about it when you are there.

Lunch @ Restoran Remember 126 Bukit Tinggi, Pahang

I like this restaurant most among the so many restaurants in Bukit Tinggi Village is because the place is big with high roof and very airy as compared to most shop lots that are normally cramp with poor ventilation. And car parking here is easy.
Simple stir fried water cress vegetable, juicy and crunchy.
Fried eggs with butter gourd slices.
Steamed village chicken don't seems to be a favourite today, probably the meat was a bit tough and does not look appetising.
This was the best dish of the lots a steamed frog sweet, tender and the gravy of finely chopped local ginger was awesome.
This precooked braised pork belly with yam was dry and it was only of average taste.
This steamed fish was another good and delicious dish everyone of us here enjoyed it.
My cyclist friends after a good ride at Bentong and we were here to reward ourselves for a good lunch before we go home.
A total of 18 of us came here out of the 30 over riders who attend the morning ride.
