Cycle Malaysia Day 35 - Johor Bahru

Good morning Johor Bahru my first concern was to locate Pos Laju as I wanted to courier some of my tee shirts back home.
I managed to find a post office at Jalan Dato Onn and the tee shirts shall reach my home earlier.
I waited for an hour for this bowl of Teowchew version of plain pork noodle which I have been pre-warned. Initially getting a seat in the shop was also difficult the people kept on flowing in, luckily I was alone and it was easy to secure a seat, just "kongsi" (share) table.
Ah Hua Kway Teow 亚华粿條 (Restoran Sekee)
30, Jalan Segget located at GPS : 1.458294, 103.764652
Opening Hours: 8am – 2.30pm (Sun – Thurs), Closed Fri, Sat and alternate Thurs
The cooking is using traditional charcoal stove.
I like some of the street murals, this one of a drying line with the various ethnic clothes.
There are others claiming the best chicken chop in JB, I was attracted by the crowd and try my fate in Restoran Hua Mui.
As usual getting a seat is the first hassle especially on a weekend. Restoran Hua Mui is halal and has been in business since 1946.
The menu with a variety of food to choose. I was there obviously for the Hainanese chicken chop and nothing else.
I love it, cutting it in small bites and happily savouring the lovely Hainanese cuisine.
The weather was excellent as I rode around the old town imagining the activities then around these surrounding.
Poking into the backlanes and some with beautiful sights.
Old JB is interesting and would not mind coming back to enjoy the food and the ambiance.
Some of the artworks seen at the shop fronts.
A peep into this noted architecture building located on an elevated land, the Sultan Ibrahim Building was built in 1939 and was used as a state secretariat building by the British, Japanese and the local government.
During my tour around the country I collected some fallen flags and re-raised it on my bicycle.
The journey was about to end soon in about a week time and a brief re-look into my plan for the remaining destinations. Melaka was a crucial place as I has to coincide with an event for My Brompton Malaysia.
It was wet in the evening I just took a short walk to Meldrum Food street for some food. I had sambal petai sotong, fried oysters and a beer for dinner. Of course it was another yummy meal and walked back to the hotel happily. Good night.

Melanian Pork Noodle 金沙园生肉面 at Kedai Kopi Melanian

One of our mornings in Kota Kinabalu somewhere near Borneo Backpackers Hostel we found Kedai Kopi Melanian that sells Sang Yuk Mien (pork noodle) and it is Sabah version for sure. There are three branches of Melanian Coffee Shop in Sabah, this one is at Jalan Pantai is the original shop.
Here we have a cheerful helper at the severy counter where you could see the many type of ingredients of a pig such as lean meat, liver, kidney and intestines
My corner my share of Melanian pork noodle, the soup is clear with Yong Tau Foo & braised chicken as side orders.
Jumbo meat balls another side order for the morning.
My younger friend has the luxury to have his with pork liver.
A mixture of meat balls, lean meat and veggies with super clear soup.
The carboh of the morning - kon loh kuay teow
Or you can have it with bihun also in dry version (kon loh).
The braised Hakka Tofu stuffed with minced meat with a piece of fish maw.
And the braised chicken feet to kill our curiosity.
My happy cycling friends having their meals with full satisfaction.

Air Itam Market Laksa found in Klang

It was a long way from my house to this place but it's worth driving all the way to Bukit Tinggi Klang and an interesting place to try authentic Penang Street foods at Angcle Peoh.
The shop has a good story on the wall as how the Ang family started selling Assam Laksa. Air Itam Market is the origin and the laksa is well known all over place.
Ang Kok Peoh or known as Angcle Peoh left Penang Island about a year plus to start a new venture in Klang Valley together with her daughter Kar Bee. Here they are joining force for a head start for Angcle Peoh.  If you remember there was once a nice Laksa Assam found in Asia Cafe which were actually operated by Kar Bee & her hubby. Apparently the one in Genting Cafe, Island Glades (Penang) is also run by the Ang family.
Char Koay Teow fried with duck egg that always has a stronger flavour is simply Jo's favourite.
Penang Hokkien Char that went well with the sambal belacan, I guess not many people would know how to appreciate it especially those not from Penang, a taste that requires an acquisition before you really like it.
Penang Hokkien Mee or better known in Klang Valley as Prawn Mee is a must in the list as far as Penang Street Foods is concernened.
Pork Noodle with delicious clear soup for those in the mood for a plain meal, it's not spicy hot and the well prepared soup is gorgeous.
I enjoyed this Assam Laksa it's rich, strong flavour, tasted delicious and lovely assam aroma. Do try this marvel if you are an assam laksa lover.
The curry isn't as white like the one in Penang it is more of a Klang Valley curry mee, the curry looks thick and I hope I will be back to savour it soon, meanwhile you tell me.
Cendol with red beans other than ABC Ice kacang and also a variety of drinks available to please you.
Kota Kemuning has just opened a second outlet @ 27, Jalan AB31/AB, Kota Kemuning, Sekyen 31, Shah Alam.

Pork Noodle at Restoran New Seaview PJ 新海景茶餐室

There is only one thing that attracts me at this kopitiam which is the pork noodle. Getting a car parking space could be a problem but not when you are cycling there ... hehehe.
I like it because the taste is awesome with its tender fresh and chunky minced meat that has a genuine aroma of a good minced meat chunk (just like mom used to make) yet it is loose when bitten in the mouth.
The soup was just perfect and awesome to me ... I like this more than Kean Fatt's one at Taman Bahagia.
Alex tried this Ipoh Hor Fun looks alike ... I might come back to try this next time.

Pork Noodle at a Row of Stalls, Jalan Landak, Pudu

It was City Day celebration, a group of us went roaming in the city after a car free day event hosted by DBKL and decided to eat here at Celebrated Coffee House. It was also the third day of Chinese New Year.
I was craving for a good bowl of pork noodle and I had it at this stall outside Celebrated Coffee House. The pork noodle was gorgeous with an extra egg added in it.
Besides the delicious pork noodle sold here (with the availability of "spare parts" too) they also sell fish head noodle. Judging from the crowd this stall must be popular and obviously a good recommendation for pork noodle.
A view of the corner coffee shop at Jalan Landak, Pudu for a good choice of breakfast in Kuala Lumpur. My previous posting of this place.
The energy from the lovely noodle ... we headed for more city adventures after the breakfast. (Picture courtesy of SC Chin)
