White Restaurant for a White Beehoon 白米粉 Experience at Punggol

I was informed of this place that I ought to check it out when I was cycling at the North Eastern trail of the cycling paths. It is located at Punggol Settlement and it is a new branch from its famous base at Sembawang under the banner of You Huak Restaurant. 

The signature dish of a white fried rice noodle (beehoon) with gravy, egg, squids, prawns and vegetable. The taste of a famous white beehoon was nice and tasty.

A side dish of meat and seafood rolls to complete our order for the lunch. It was dry on the outside but meaty and delicious in the inside.

Jalan Sikimat's Fish Head Noodle & Fish Balls

Back in 2007 Restoran Liong Kee has been awarded for Gold Medal for their fish head beehoon by Nanyang Siang Pau. Out of curiosity I went hunting for this place in Seremban. I was shocked to see that the shop was quiet and I thought maybe Liong Kee caters mainly for the evening crowd but I really don't know.

Anyway I ordered a bowl of fish head beehoon with some home made fish balls. The fish balls were delicious something like the Hock Chiew type of texture but without any minced meat in it and it's smaller. I like it very much.

The noodle is garnished with Chinese lettuce and instead of ham choy like a normal fish head noodle. (personally I do not like ham choy any veggie that is preserved is a no no).

The condition of the shop is not impressive at all but the noodle is good maybe I will go back there again for other Liong Kee's dishes. By the way it is located at the outskirt of Seremban near a Teacher Training College.

They sell vegetarian economy rice for during the lunch.

Punggol Here We Come on a North Eastern Trail

Seeing places with our two wheels is such an awesome thing to do, I wanted to come to this place for a white beehoon and I found it.

It was a morning with an unfavourable weather forecast that was not ideal for cycling. We nearly put off the plan to cycle after accompanying my in-laws for a Bak Kut Teh session at Rangoon Road. But we decided to cycle after all the meat eating and armed with disposal ponchos we pushed our bikes out to the nearest PCN at Gerald Drive.

It was just opposite Jalan Kelulut and behind Shell station there is this staircase with a tyre guide channel for easy maneuvering of the bicycle.

This is  Punggol park connector which is part of the 26km North Eastern Trail that links Buangkok, Sengkang, Punggol and continues to link to Punggol Beach, Punggol Promenade and Lorong Halus Wetland.

The natural path is pleasant with sufficient greenery and at times if you are lucky you will see wild birds flapping across your path.

Two years ago I came to this place there were lots of construction work going on and today I still see many tower cranes I bet more HDB apartments will be sprouting in this vicinity. Some of the paint work has already faded specially those on the old bridges. My previous visit can be seen here.

After finishing the entire Punggol Drive we saw this temple with cute statutes in front of it and found out that is Fo Guang Shan Temple.

A friend told me of this newly opened restaurant and it is famous for its white beehoon. It is located at the end of Jalan Punggol at Punggol Settlement. Somehow we missed the route from the park connector to this place but used a slightly unfriendly public road (Jalan Punggol) with is a mini dragon back.

So this is the much talk about white beehoon, wet and white. It was tasty and not a bad venture to find this famous place.

Punggol Beach overlooking Johore Straits and Malaysia is just across this water.

Fishing is a popular activity at this end of Punggol. Fishing rods were seen lining up along the beach as we rode by.

Renting bicycles is easily available, there are bicycle rental kiosks located at various corners for you to hire and cycle around at this lovely trail.

Bye bye Sengkang we will come back again.
