Launch of Menara Majestic 07 Dec 1995

I found this old newspaper cutting in the office when I was in the midst of clearing away some of my old stuff. This was during the time when I was with Mutiara Johan Group of companies and was engaged as General Manager of the Group.Notice my balding has already advanced in a serious stage at that time.

Loh See Fun @ Restoran Yoke Heng

The gathering of the in-laws for a dinner at 33, Jalan SR 8/4, Taman Putra Indah, Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan and most importantly, it was the celebration of our niece in-law and nephew in-law new chapter of life. Both Hwee Wen and Khek Yang have graduated from their tertiary education and have just started working. Hence all their Grandpa, aunties, uncles, cousins, brother, sister and parent are being treated a dinner. Khek Yang had pre booked two tables at Yoke Heng Seafood for an 8pm dinner. Despite to the bad traffic encountered by most of us, the dinner was good and worth the while..

This place is popular for their clay pot loh see fan and succulent pork ribs cooked in foil packet which were definitely in our order list.

Endorsed by Ho Chak, October 2006.

Tofu with minced pork meat found to be too sweet.

Favourite clay pot Loh See Fan was good and tasty.

Herbal chicken in foil, okay okay lah.

Steamed patin cat fish – passed

Succulent pork rib favourite among the kids but not that succulent as claimed.

Dinner was co-sponsored by these two young financiers.

Nando's Challenge

It was a dinner of alternative and adventure, first Xiang Yi was gamed for Kenny Roger Roaster and everyone has no dispute over his suggestion as this mum's promise was long over due. While on the way to the nearest Kenny Roger's outlet we changed our minds again and opted for Nando's instead because of the drizzle and hassle free car parking in Jaya Jucos Wangsa Maju.
Nando's was packed with patrons that evening must be the Dawali holiday.
We were fortunate at that time; we were given a "special" room at a private corner of the outlet.
The adventure then begins with the choice selection of level of chilli hotness for each and every individual orders. My youngest son took the kiddies menu, 2nd son & mum opted for mild hot, the eldest for extra hot and me just hot. Every one of us got not much of a problem with the peri peri hotness except the two younger ones after venturing in the hot peri peri sauce.
Anyway, every one of us enjoyed the foods very much, generally each of us had a quarter chicken and was still not satisfied after the meal. We ordered another half chicken to share, maybe due to inflation the size of the chicken offered these days have shrunk. I tell you my family really can eat, no wonder my 2nd son is now catching up with no. 1 in roundness. I am having problems controlling their diets.

Diwali Golf @ UPM 8 November 2007

The weather of Diwali morning was excellent, perfectly excellent for golfing. After a good and interesting round of golf at Unit Golf Universiti Putra Malaysia with Aik Seong, Eng Kiong and Shiang Hwai, we decided to go for a good lunch as we were dead hungry. Shiang Hwai suggested sang yee (Haruan fish) at a popular food stall at Seri Kembangan.
We followed him for about a 15 minutes drive to this wooden shop by the name of “Restoran Yap Yin & Bak Kut Teh”. Shiang Hwai immediately fixed up a food order and lunch was served within 15 minutes. That was fast.
First dish served was mui choy cow yoke (very delicious), followed by kangkong belacan,
a steamed soya sauce Haruan fish,
then another steamed Haruan fish this time with Brands’ Essence of Chicken and
the last and fifth dish was fried mantis prawns with salted egg yolk.
The two fishes we had were fabulous and the total damage for the lunch including drinks were RM157.00

Another Beefy Discovery

It is located at Section 17 Petaling Jaya, Road 12 (17/12) at a shop called Restoran Khiasat. The operator of this beef noodle stall is Mr. Julian Cheng and acclaimed himself that his beef noodle is the best in Selangor and the only one of its kind in town.
When I placed my order with him, he immediately commented that I must be a new patron because he has never seen me before. He then recommended me his original dry noodle as seen in the photo and gave me his call card. He uses fat glass noodle for his ngau lam and with peanut and pickles in it. Never try in such a style before and as for the taste it is just average. Worth a try if you happen to be in the neighbourhood.

See here for previous ngau lam discovery in Kepong.
