The three of us staying at this accommodation while the rest were staying at the next building. A good rest indeed after a hectic ride the day before.
We had a simple ramen breakfast and were ready to continue the journey.
It was a Monday morning I was expecting a heavy traffic with crowded office workers but it wasn't. Maybe I forget I was in a layback place where thing is slow and easy going life style.
Taking instructions from my Oregon and obediently we were nipping through small and quiet roads to get out of Seopwipo City centre and the road here were straight and monotonous.
Black pork (heuk-dwae-ji) in Seopwipo seem to be popular so is their abalone porridge and grilled mackerel. Saw this sign while we were riding on.
Along our route we came across a place where peace activists would gather and protest against the massive construction of the naval base in Jeju Island.
Catholic priest Father Mun Jeong Hyeon is known for his commitment to protest against state-sponsored war base, human rights and destruction of eco system of the island. A privilege to meet you Sir.
We wish Father Mun all the best in his struggle.
The stretch between Jungmun and Seopwipo is scenic, flat and easy to cycle.
So far Zuyi has been doing fine with the cycling though a long sitting on the saddle would be a bit painful.
Beophwan Village is the southernmost village in Jeju, it has the largest number of Haenyeo lady divers and its traditional culture has been properly preserved.
Stamping booth @ Beophwan Badang
It was a good break and we were having fun taking photos with the murals seen at the village.
Oedolgae Rock in Seogwipo where we took a detour down hill to the place and it was surely a big climb back to our cycling route.
Finally we completed the climb back from Oedolgae and resume to our route to Seopwipo City.
A peep into World Seashell Museum (GPS : 33.247579, 126.551655), the entrance fee is 6,000 won per person.
The famous art street named after Lee Jung Seop whom has contributed significantly with his distinctive paintings and drawings in Seopwipo.
At one of the several corners of the art street.
A small museum devoted to Lee Jung-Seop (1916–56). Outside, on a lovely manicured lawn with fragrant trees, is the traditional Jeju house in which the artist lived for a short time in 1951.
Seobok Exhibition park @ GPS : 33.245046, 126.570886
The weather was superb for cycling and experiencing the scene in Jeju Island.
Soesokkak stampin booth - an estuary nearby called as Soesokkak Estuary (쇠소깍) where the fresh water meets the ocean. Soesokkak is also well-known for its small, flat wooden boats called “Teu” that have been used for hundreds of years to ferry people across the estuary.
Seogwipo is the second-largest city on Jeju Island, settled on a rocky volcanic coastline in the southern part of Jeju Province, South Korea. In July 2006, Seogwipo's boundaries were expanded to include the entire southern half of Jeju island. A UNESCO World Heritage site and 2002 FIFA World Cup host.
The ride towards Pyoseon, we hope to get as close as possible to this place.
Villa at Pyoseon for 100,000won a night for 7 of us, the best deal we had for the entire trip.
A secluded restaurant by the seaside where we had our delicious mackerel and abalone porridge.
The Stage 3 has been able to put us towards south eastern of the island for a day run of 50km. Well done teammates. Til then tomorrow will be another stage to go.
From the window of our room we could see the sea with the row of windmill turbines, It was windy and cold outside. We left Mega Resort at about 8.00am.
Our breakfast at GS 25, we met the same girl at the counter who gave us the tip as to where we could look for our accommodation. We communicated with her in Mandarin, I guess she is of the many Chinese from mainland China working in South Korea.
On the bicycle lane again and its indicates 33.2km to the next stamping booth.
A tiny village at the neighbourhood where we took a quick detour to check out the place and a few photo takings.
A photo with the row of Shingaemul windmill turbines at GPS :
33.343063, 126.174382
We discovered another public bath as we got closer to the windmills at Shingaemul.
One more with the iconic mills.
The weather remained cold but lovely to cycle with the beautiful scenery along the way.
I enjoyed the setting of this area with a lovely down hill roll together with a vast green field (probably this is a paddy field) and this was at the initial route at the vicinity of Noeulhaean-ro. See the video attached.
Then we were out of the paddy field area and the running crowd from the marathon event. We were now into another dimension of Jeju Island.
A pit stop and quick rest before we move on ......
It's back to the same old routine with scenery of ocean, rock and black rock along cycling lane as we followed diligently on the blue line.
By accident we came to this wet market, it is a big market selling all kind of stuffs and food. We just could not resist the local food and decided to stay put for our lunch. We tried the spicy rice cake (Tteokbokki), sweet pan cake (Hotteok) served in a paper cup, Eomuk Guk fish cake on skewers, skewered meat (maekjeok) etc etc.
The market at Sinyeong-ro GPS : 33.220197, 126.248166
The ride was still on flat land unfortunately the ride ahead was expected to be hilly.
Approaching the vicinity of Mt. Songaksan and a stamping booth is just located next to 7-11 outlet. The place was crowded with tourists.
Songaksan, Stamping Booth GPS: 33.206649, 126.289606. Mt. Songaksan is just nearby and can be seen from here. This was at our 34th KM of the day.
Another Haenyeo statue.
The climb is coming and at the front is Mt. Songak-san.
Sanbanggulsa Temple as viewed from the cycling route.
Opposite the temple is this place where we took a rest and regroup before we move on into the climbing stretch. ZuYi was not complaining I guess he was doing well so far.
At our 37th KM we stopped at this Hallabong Mandarin orange farm for a photo shoot and a taste of the fruit. It's apparently famous in Jeju and a favourite fruit during winter, it is more expensive than the ordinary mandarin orange. Located at along Sanbang-ro GPS:33.242135, 126.324198
We were trying our luck to take a shortcut to avoid severe climb at the coastal edge but the Police gave us a big "No No". The Police Station at Hwasunimjung-ro GPS : 33.238565, 126.336538. The policemen were helpful they even offered us hot coffee to drink.
Museum of Sex & Health along Iljuseo-ro GPS : 33.255414, 126.344862 after more than 45KM of pedalling.
After a bit of the main road at Iljuseo-ro we were directed back into the quiet interior with steep climb and downhill. It was away from traffic but not the steepness of the route.
It's back to civilisation with nice buildings and road.
We passed by a huge project by our Malaysian developer Berjaya at Yerae. We noted that this street will soon be covered with cherry blossom, it will be great if we could be there in a week time as the buds and trees were showing sign of blooming.
Darkness has started to creep in and we were still in a position of looking for a place to put up. Finally we got ourselves in 2 places which was close to one another. Dinner was at one of the hotel we were staying and the food has been always good and yummy. With a few glasses of beer it was a good evening to rest and recharged for the next day.
Finishing our 2nd stage of ride with a distance of 56km and arriving at a place called Jungmun, southern part of the island.
