First Day of Hari Raya Puasa 2007

Royal Kampung Kuantan Golf was established in 1910 by the "Ang Mor" mostly British planters and this is one of the oldest golf courses in Selangor located between Ijok and Kuala Selangor. About 60km from Kuala Lumpur. You can find huge trees like this which is the main characteristic of this golf course. The course is a flat course but with these mature trees in play, the course can be tricky and interesting. It is a walking course with services of local caddies (all Indian) and lots of them.

Enjoy the old architectural features of the club house. The caterer of a old couple (granny & grandpa) whom could provide us with good lunch after the 18 holes walk. The foods were fanastastic, we had fried kampong chicken, fried kambong fish, lots of curry crabs (main course), veges, eggs. And of course lots of Carlsberg beer and couple bottles of whiskey.

This outing is organised by Citizen Nades of the Sun newspaper, all together we have 14 golfers. He will be writing about his round of golf with three CEO in Kg Kuantan. They were CC Ng from Tai Thong, Boon from KBB One and Chin from Carlsberg. Watch out in the coming issue of the Edge.

My flight mates were Nicholas Leong and young man Teng. Other friends in this outing were Francis Yeoh, his wife Cheng, Neil Watts (suspended member of this club, an "ang mor"), Raj (the Sun Photogapher), and the others.

We also met friends from RSC there. Ex-Commander Karu, Mr. Soon and other former officers from the Navy.

Oriental Tit Tar Centre 8 October 2007

On my way home today, I decided to visit a chinese traditional treatment centre at Setapak, Kuala Lumpur called "Oriental Tit Tar" (OTT) which I have been noticing it whenever I pass by this place. My ankle is still not in a good condition, slightly swollen eventhough I have no difficulty walking but and especially after a walk like yesterday in Kiara Hill, the pain got worse and it was very uncomfortable.

After checking my ankle by a young consultant, he applied some kind of warm and strong odour medicine on the ankle, bandaged the ankle and instructed me not to remove it until the following day.

At the counter, a lady gave me the following items:- (1) a brochure of OTT, (2) a patient card similar to a credit card, (3) a Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ leaflet and (4) an un-used plastic bag for the bandaged leg when taking shower. All these for a fee of RM46.00 and to visit the place again on Wednesday.

Hari Raya Puasa is coming

Last Hari Raya Puasa also fall in the month of October, and the one and only one open house I visited was my ex-boss' house in Hill View, Kuala Lumpur. The ex-boss is Encik Isham Ariff, his career started off as a Clerk of Work in the building industry and ended up as a corporate player in the PLC game. Understand he has retired from active corporate business and is now lying low in his private life.

Last year's raya was a good one as we, the ex-staff of Salinas Sdn Bhd have the opportunity to get together ever since the corportisation of the company took place sometimes in the late 80's. The company was taken over by Bedford Berhad and later changed its name to Hong Leong Properties Berhad. The original staff of the company slowly disminished as the corporate exercise got intensified. Probably we do not know how to survive in a big time corporate company, as one must be able to persevere and able to politick in the company and if you are not well verse in it and not willing to play along, then you might as well leave and start afresh in other smaller organisation.

Anyway, I am looking forward to this coming raya holidays, no plan yet but a proposed golf game is being arranged by Citizen Nades of The Sun, he is organising a round of golf in Kampung Kuantan among friends of RSC.

Volleyball Team of Sultan Badlishah School 1975

This was the team representing SBS in 1975, I remember we managed to play a few matches in the inter school competition level until the last match with one of the schools in Baling.

The main player of this team was none other than Ong Tiek Hwa, he was the main spiker and did most of the attacking role. Due to height constraint, I was always in the setting position and making sure that I could feed the spikers accurately. Whenever, the team managed a good attack, we would yell "char siew". Diving for save, digging, overhand or underhand serving, blocking and dipping were parts of the fun in this game.

Prawn Mee @ Taman Sri Sentosa, Kuala Lumpur

As blogged previously on Pan Mee at Taman Sri Sentosa, Old Klang Road and as promised, I have eventually tried this eating place as per my to try list. The last attempt was not successful as it was finished by the time we reached there. This time I have managed to try it, and the verdict is quite satisfying even though the look of the dish is not so presentable. The taste of this prawn mee quite close to the one in Taman Dr Ismail. This shop is located at Jalan Sri Sentosa 9A, Off Jalan Klang Lama, same row of shops with the Pan Mee Shop. between the two types, I would opt for the pan mee.

Dream Team of Sultan Badlishah School - 1975

This was the Dream Team of Sultan Badlishah School in the year 1975 . Our tallest player was the late Teng Kim Bah playing the position of centre and did most of the rebounds. Ooi Soo Kiat one of the forwards , always on the run or in another word "master of curi ayam". Teow Choon, Tick Choong, Poh Tee aka Jimmy, Tiang Peng, and Kean Hooi are among those who love the game. I have no knowledge of one who can slam dunk during that time, only knew of such skill after watching NBA. I really love this game and have been playing the game until the last 10 over years when I injured my right knee by snapping the arterior cruciate ligament (ACL). That was it, no more buying basketball shoes but have opted for golf shoes and jogging shoes.
