Restoran Hai Thian for another Birthday Celebration

Happy Birthday to Lai Yoong & Wei Xiang. Last year we were at the same restaurant for the same celebration, time ready flies...

Delicious poached chicken was juicy and tender....yummy yummy.

Deep fried tilapia fish with creamy curry sauce - what a spicy taste of fish.

Two flavour squid dish was a favourite with its succulent bites and fresh taste of sotong.

Fried Tofu and century eggs served pickles another good choice for a different taste for the night.

Simple stir fried bean sprout and green pepper and preserved vegetable was fabulous and nice.

Pork with sweet coating was good choice for a complete dinner.

Happy Birthday will we see you again at Hai Thian next year? Anyway Thank You for the lovely treat.

Riding with new friends to the Land of Ampang

The person who took us up here is Jer Ping and together are friends whom we met a day before in a mapping discussion. I enjoyed the route going through new places with interesting discoveries. Well done Jer Ping.

I left my house at 6.45am everything was still in the dark.

Yut Kee Restaurant was only about to open when I reached there.

We were ready and Ampang here we come.....

Sri Ganesar Temple @ Kg Pandan - started in 1951 but this structure was only built in 1955 and was the first in the area. 

Our next destination was to invade old Ampang Town, we were at the crowded market and had a thirst quencher from one of the stalls nothing like a cold glass of coconut water with its fresh kernel and it was so refreshing.

A brief stop at the Nine Emperor Gods Temple of Ampang and I bet it was a good visit for our oversea friends.

Roberto has rode to Ampang several times via different routes and he brought us to this trail but unfortunately it was not passable and we had to to turn back and continue our ride for the last climb.

That was it the peak of our ride for the day good climb and an easy roll back into Ampang. This was at mid road of Jalan Hulu Langat. There could be more climbs further up and we opted to cease at this junction and called it off for the day ride.

Wai Sek Kai of Taman Putra, a road with two long rows of food stalls and surely a food paradise in this part of the world. We settled for some sweet dessert and cold drinks.

We tried some of the popular foods like Ais Batu Kacang ABC and cendol.

Opposite to where we were eating I saw this attractive stall with long spread of dishes for economical rice. I would like to try it next time.

Finally we came back to KL city and it was a lovely ride with an excellent weather. Thanks to jer Ping for leading us this route.

After coming back into the city centre, we dispersed and went separate ways to our respective homes. Passing by Kg Baru is my regular route back home.

I was glad that I have done such a workout on a beautiful Sunday and has prompted me to create an event for my cyclist friends .

Ma' Cik Nasi Biryani @ Curve

Of late I have been going regularly to The Curve and during one of my visits I came upon accidentally to this shop with a sudden crave for some oily rice. 

The rice was served with a hot pot and at the base of the rice it was slightly burnt and crusted just like those found in Chinese Clay pot rice.

I opted for egg biryani and for once I am avoiding meat. There were two eggs in it. I enjoyed the bryani and also loved the prickles too.

Searching for a Cycleable Route from Dataran Merdeka to Bangsar

Looking for new routes for cycling has become an interesting task for me as there are not many connectivity from one place to another be it a ride for leisure or work. This time around we wanted to connect Dataran Merdeka to Bangsar. 

Riding in backlanes is always interesting and is part and parcel of route searching.

Free hot soup for the homeless at old Klang Bus Station Jalan Bandar which is tucked next to Klang River. I was surprised to see so many homeless people in Kuala Lumpur. 

Getting down to a path running along the river towards Brickfields was an unusual experience. This route has a great potential and it is a prefect choice to convert it into a proper cycling lane. Let's hope the relevant authorities can take notice of it and make it happen.

Yes! we managed to make it to Bangsar with our bicycles, I guess the most trickiest was the crossing of Jalan Bangsar from Jalan Travers. It requires a mere push via several pedestrian crossings assisted with traffic lights. Thanks to Seang Nee for accompanying me in this search.

It was this lady in green who requested a ride to Bangsar that initiated this event. We gathered at RSC Dataran Merdeka for the ride after our individual works.

There were some of us who started from Bangsar led by a Sifu to the Independence Square.

Together we headed for the beautifully drawn graffiti at Klang River behind the famous Sultan Abdul Samad Building.

It is relatively a long stretch of paint work colourful, surrounded by skyscrapers and old KL buildings. Please note that cycling along this river edge is only possible during dry day.

Confidently the group took the narrow path along the river towards Brickfields, certain section of the path is uneven, at times some even have to carry their bicycles ...I like when some said it was educational going through this paths along the river.

At last we reached Bangsar and had a chance to meet an interesting person with his Cycling KL Map project, Jeff briefly explained the objective and aspiration of this map project. 

Looking back at Little India @ Brickfields is Mr.Kwan, from here we went forward to Chinatown to meet another cycling group for supper. So now we know how to get to Bangsar from Dataran and more connections and discoveries to be identified. Let's enjoy our city ride. 

Critical Mass Kuala Lumpur March 2013

This is my first time joining this cycling event called "Critical Mass" which is actually a global event held over 300 cities on the last Friday of the month. I was made to understand that this event in Kuala Lumpur have been around for the last couple of years initiated by some Mat Salleh cyclists and the response was tremendous.  

The purposes of this event is to create awareness of bicycling culture in the city that is still alive and to gain a fair share of the road usage.

The group started to gather at Ampang LRT Station from 9pm and a total of approximately 50 cyclists turned up for this mini carnival. We started to roll around 10.30pm.

There were all kind of bicycles from small bicycles BMX to old classic bicycles including two on roller skates. The mass was good enough to create attention and we had a pit stop to regroup at Bukit Bintang shopping paradise.

Dataran Merdeka seems to be the common stop for this ritual and it was the last stop for some of us. Some continued their ride to other part of the city for supper and some went back. The ride was short but relaxing which was fun and a chance to meet new cycling comrades. Let's us support this group even though there are some controversial issues arising out of this event but all in all there is a common objective that can be achieved and in the hope of creating good cycling awareness in the public in the name of safety riding.

Penang Char Hor Fun @ Cheras

It is difficult to find Penang Char Hor Fun in Kuala Lumpur and by accident I discovered one at Taman Segar, Cheras.

Though not 100% perfect but it has the characteristics of a Penang CHFand most importantly I like it.

Besides Char Hor Fun, the lady sells other Penang food. Let's go and give it a try. If you do know of a better Penang Char Hor Fun please do tell me where because I am a big fan of this Penang fried noodle.

Serendah Waterfall 2.0

There is a Serendah 1.0 initiated and organised by Mr. SC Chin, a teacher who knows very well the town of Rawang and its surroundings. See here for an older blog on  Serendah 1.0 on 16 February 2013.

It was then popularly demanded for a second ride and exactly 1 month later on 17 March 2013 Serendah 2.0 was established with an overwhelming response. A total of 58 cyclists turned up as compared to 30 on the first ride.

The weather was fantastic and all participants were cheerful and ready to roll.

On the trunk road of Rawang Ipoh bound, traffic was heavy and we have to be extra careful with the moving vehicles. Luckily the usage of such busy road was minimum and the rest of it was pleasant and lovely to cycle.

The official pit stop was at Serendah BP petrol station and due to the large number of participants the re-grouping took quite a while. Some of us took this opportunity to savour some local food at the town itself and the kopi "O" was awesome.

The fun of getting into the waterfall was exuberant and had a wonderful time getting themselves wet after the ride.

On the way back we dropped by (again just like the previous trip) at the same place in Serendah for their famous Leng Chee Kang. The place was suddenly packed with our presence and service was in a havoc situation but it was all meant good for the operator.

As planned, SC Chin made the last stop for Rawang Tilapia Wan Tan Mee.....everyone were looking forward eating the Fei Zhou Yee (de fish) and had a good meal at Restoran R. Cheng Fei Zhou Yee and also known as Tang Wan Cheng.

Tilapia Wan Tan Mee, just do not know why they called Wan Tan Mee but I enjoyed it anyway.

Thanks to Mr. SC Chin & Liliana for their superb planning and everything went perfectly well. Congratulation..please note that there are already demand for Serendah 3.0.
