Ah Leng Char Koay Teow During an Evening at Air Itam Penang

If you google "Ah Leng Char Koay Teow Penang" you would probably get on the stall at Datuk Keramat Road in lieu of the one at Air Itam.

Ah Leng is actually frying at Air Hitam and the one at Datuk Keramat is manned by the son.
My brother Ho Lin went across the road to get a packet of this the famous Char Koay Teow for me to try while waiting for the dishes from Ee Tong Restaurant. RM12 for this fried rice noodle with 4 big prawns & duck egg.
I find that this fried koay toew is too wet it could be better if Ah Leng fried it slightly drier....so the next time if you order your char koay teow from Ah Leng you should request it dry.
By the way you could also opt for chicken egg instead of duck egg, the taste is difficult and probably you might like it otherwise.

Finally 56 Merdeka Ride 2013 was executed - Penang 2nd Bridge

The long awaited event has finally made it with several postponements and tons of disappointment. Many have given up, lost hope with the organiser and refused to take part. Anyway I made it even though it dragged into year 2014 and I don't mind the delay so long as I can enjoy it.
Joe and me went over to Batu Kawan Stadium the evening before the actual day for a joy ride in Bukit Mertajam and stayed over for the official event.
A group of us gathered at a homestay at 6.00am and were ready for the longest bridge in Southeast Asia. Yes! we were geared for the historical moment.
The organiser claimed to have 10,000 riders on the bridge but with the confusion and others this figure is questionable but visually the crowd was really fantastic.....
The crowd was so huge that we decided to wait a while before joining the ride. It was indeed a wonderful cruise on the bridge.
A screening of ghost riders was conducted at the toll booths, anyone found without any valid proof of registration will be asked to turn back. I know a few lucky unregistered riders who got through for the ride .... some even got their medals ... hehehe ....
We were blessed with an excellent weather, the wind was strong but lovely and at times it resisted our motion. I just wonder whether there will be anymore cycling event on this bridge I would love to come back to do it again.
After pedalling a distance of 20 over km I reached the cable stayed bridge and another 5km or less to we could have touch the island of Penang. A U turn was made immediately after this cable stayed bridge and back to Batu Kawan Staduim for a total distance of 47km. It was simply awesome even though there were plentiful of negativity about the event.
Thank you Cycling Malaysia Magazine for this nice photo.
The rain came later in the afternoon just before we reached Bukit Tambun for lunch. The rain was everyone's dream on a dry spell suffered for the last couple of weeks. Another blessing for Penangites.
Bukit Tambun is very near Batu Kawan we shall explore these places like Pulau Aman and the food in the near future. We had our lunch at Jetty Restaurant before we split. My last visit for seafood here was at Gee Seng Restaurant (just next to Restoran Jetti).

Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih 大肥面粉糕 at Berkeley Garden, Klang

The famous Pan Mee also known as Mee Hoon Kuih in Hokkien at Berkeley Garden, Klang. Be prepared to wait if you want to try it.
Restoran Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih was full to the brim we were fortunate to get a table without much difficulty for two with my Jifo tucked underneath the table.
It was a long wait as expected ... probably more than half an hour for ours to come. The shop has been renovated looking very much conducive as compared to the last time I visited it.
The severy was in full force with 3 persons pinching the dough and the master lady busy cooking the Mee Hoon Kuih. Many came to "ta pau" (take away orders) so be patient maybe play with your mobiles or talk to your companions while you are waiting for the food.....
Patric asked me what so special about the Mee Hoon Kuih .... mmmmm not bad la and it's the best in Klang!!!

Foldies Cycling to Klang 巴生 for a Food Adventure

A group of foldies wanted to ride to Klang for Bak Kut Teh, the sky was hazy but that did not dampen them from doing so.
We gathered at Dataran Merdeka and kicked off around 7.45am.
As usual we went through Brickfields and into the motor lane of Federal Highway.
Part of the motor lane was under repair, motorcyclists were pretty lesser on the road and always friendlier for cycling on a Sunday.
As we approaches Shah Alam the sky was getting worse, it looks like cloudy but it was not.
A pit stop to regroup and rest before we enter the golden gate of Klang 巴生.
Concertedly we chose Berkeley Garden to break our fast which mean a 3 o'clock turning was made.
I have eaten Bak Kut Teh consecutively for the last two days and seeing one more would make me shiver. Something less exaggerate something light & soothing would be ideal. It was just a few doors away there is this famous Pan Mee shop known Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih House, Patric & myself opted for this choice.
Simple yet tasty Mee Hoon Kuih or commonly known as Pan Mee, a hand made rice dough thinly pinched serve with lean meat, anchovies, veggie and with an extra egg added. The soup was lovely.
The waiting time was long as usual and I finished it clean. What a good breakfast in "Pa Sang".
The majority of them was BKT adventuring at Mor Sang Kor, they were disappointed with the no garlic and stingy soup refill .... well that's the way in Mo Sang Kor. You don't like it there are many others who love it .... hehehe. Enjoy bro!!!!
A bit of town rounding and shopping as the heat was mounting .....
Nothing like loitering at the cool double decker bridge we enjoyed the river breeze and views from here.
Taking a short cut in an illegal manner was fun ... please do not try it again.
Coffee time at Chong Kok coffee shop, a truly 1 Malaysia Coffee Shop where you can see all races patronising together. Bravo!!!
The heat and haze were getting intense, we had to leave Klang and in a comfortable air conditioned train. We had a good fun chatting and laughing in the coach.
Another suggestion cropped up.... i.e. to have ice kacang at PJ Old Town and we decided to disembark at Jalan Templer station for it.
We took the wrong way and did not made it to PJ Old Town. We continued riding along Old Klang Road towards the city and the search for ABC continued.
Nothing like a delicious cold ice kacang in Brickfields. I was glad to see the Ice Kacang stall opened if not I would be a dead duck......hehehe.
A route of 70 over kilometres of cycling and train commuting on a hot and hazy Sunday to Klang ....  just for a food adventure.

Cheers we shall meet again.

Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Ang Hock Bak Kut Teh, Tiong Nam KL

Looking for breakfasts has been interesting with a bicycle. I could just nip from one corner to another in the city without worry of traffic congestion and car parking and the choices of food in the city is in abundance. Here I was at Tiong Nam Settlement, off Jalan Raja Laut.
I decided to try the food at Kedai Dan Makanan Ang Hock and ordered a portion of Ka Wan (pig's leg with soft cartilage and chewy skin) mixed with spare ribs. The soup is not too thick nor too plain but just right for a decent taste of Bak Kut Teh.
It was after a short tour in the neighbourhood of Tiong Nam (also known as Tiong Nam Ku in Hokkien) admiring the old architecture of this settlement. What a pity most of the houses have been renovated and most of the original architecture features have been disturbed.
This stall outside Ang Hock Coffee Shop is a popular Bak Kut Teh stall which have been endorsed by Ho Jiak 8TV serving only from 3pm - 2.00am. So if you are in need of Bak Kut Teh during this hours then do come to this stall.
Tiong Nam is actually hidden inside the busy roads of Chow Kit comprising of Sultan Ismail and Raja Laut. And one side of the settlement is Batu River.
