Fried Porridge @ Serdang, Kedah.

Ever wonder how a fried porridge looks like??? I did wonder & I found & I ate. It was great. At last I managed to savour the wonder of fried porridge at Serdang. An approximately 40 minutes drive from Kulim and it was worth the drive. This is the restaurant, Fong Ting Siew a name you have to remember if you want to eat this delicacy. There is another place in Serdang selling the same dish & apparently the original birth place.

Kerabu apple salad is magnificent. What a great & simple salad with dried cuttlefish crisp. Must try!!!

Here you are, the fried porridge. It was very tasty and I love it very much. It has plentiful ingredients in it such as dried shrimps, shredded meat, maybe lard and others. The fragrant is so nice & appetizing.

Assam Prawn was superbly delicious. The prawns were fresh & succulent cooked with lot of lard. Very very good……..

Tom Yam Prawn another fresh seafood but Assam Prawn was better.

Ginger & lemon grass deep fried pork rib is another fantastic dish, tender & yummy.

Cockles were small in size that evening, could be better if they were bigger. The sweet and sour sauce was good & different.

Fong Ting Siew fried rice was an additional order and it was also lovely.

Sweet potato leaves fried with belacan & prawns were as delicious as the rest.

Christmas Lunch at Tapah, Perak - Jolly Good

It was Christmas Day a group of eight went up north for a food trail. We gathered at Taman Tun Dr Ismail @ Yong Len Coffee Shop for breakfast around 10am and proceeded to Tapah for an eel delicacy. My “Loh Kum”, Tay Kok Leong led us to Zong Meng.

The highlight of this Christmas lunch was this eel dish fried with dried chili. The meat is firm and chewy not like those “Unagi” found in Japanese restaurants which are soft. Thumb up for this Tapah “wong sin”.

La clam was fresh & delicious, the aroma of ginger was so pleasant.

Deep fried Lemon grass chicken wings was everyone’s favourite too, it was gorgeous.

Paku veggie fried with belacan was crunchy with slight sappy taste but yummy.

Haruan fish fillet another Tapah popular dish but I prefer the eel.

Zong Meng’s Seafood Tofu cuisine. Pretty good.
This is the eating crew, satisfied and looking forward for the next destination.

The total damage for such a lovely lunch in Tapah was only RM84.00. We shall come again Zong Meng.

Fish Ball Noodle @ Sri Damansara Kuala Lumpur

More than a year ago I posted this eating place, here I am again at this place with my colleague to sample more taste. And it has to be more than a year to come back, well KL has too many eating places to go and sometime you just do not know where to go. It was already near 2 o’clock in the afternoon and people should be back to work but the place is still packed with patrons. Well done Ah Niu for your survival in this neighbourhood and keep it up the good business.

I like to have a dry version of yellow noodle with dark soy sauce and a little bit of fine deep fried lard in it. And complete with a bowl of lovely & fresh fish balls plus fish maw for my meal.

Deep fried dumplings eaten with finely cut ginger & vinegar sauce.

Saito fish cake does not look so attractive at the outside but palatable when you sink it into your mouth. I normally see rectangular shape fish cake but this one is round.

The big menu on the wall unfortunately it is in Chinese if you do not read Chinese then just looks at the pictures with prices for your order.

Famous Claypoy "Loh See Fun" @ Serdang Raya, Kuala Lumpur

From Taman Setiawangsa to Serdang Raya is quite a distant to travel for claypot Loh See Fun. I know I have blogged this eating place before, I did a check and found out it was October 2007 I posted it. Time really flies and I am going there again for a dinner hosted by Kok Leong.

It was 6.50pm the place was already building up with makan kakis, we got a table for 12 persons and made the necessary order while waiting for the rest to come.

Kam Heong la la clams came first in the order which were sinfully delicious. It was fried with small oily dry shrimps making it simply awesome.

Herbal stewed chicken was yummy & tender in aluminium foil. And steamed Tilapia fish was also gorgeous with its superb sauce topping. Again it was the lard that made it magical.

This is the main dish and the main reason for coming to Yoke Heng. The Loh See Fun is still as good. Again there was lot of sinful ingredients in the pot such as lard, dried shrimps, minced meat all formulating for a wonderful & signature dish in Yoke Heng.

Two dishes of veggies were placed for the evening. One a simple stir fried sweet potato leaves and Hong Kong Kai Lan fried with roast pig. Both were good.

Marmite pork rib served in aluminium foil. It was a bit dry & tough but the taste was nice with slight spicy flavor.

Fried mantis prawn fried with dried chili was also dry on the outside but reasonably tender and tasty in the inner bite.

Marketing on a Weekend Morning @ Sri Rampai, Kuala Lumpur

Every Sunday or Saturday morning I will have to visit a market to purchase fresh food for the house. Thank goodness my mother has been doing this chore for the last one month but unfortunately she will be going back to Penang soon and I will have to take over again for such chores.

Most of the times we will visit the Sri Rampai market and sometime at the other market @ Air Panas. The one at Sri Rampai is operating on the street with no proper marketing facilities provided. It is absurd to see such market using road sides with vehicles moving up and down on the road. Whereas in Air Panas the market is properly housed in a building designed for such function.

Here to you can pick the green vegetables and you can also pick cheap & fashionable clothings.

If you are looking for spices, dry sundries, potatoes, canned stuffed etc etc then try this stall. And this is our favourite chicken stall, if I were to buy I would just buy 2 birds for a week but if my mother is buying she will have various combinations of chicken parts.

Fresh fishes & prawns sold on the road side without any stall, they have been doing this way for a long time. And next to this couple is this young man selling live frogs. This sight is not so pleasant for some people.

Dragon fruits, pineapples and other local fruits are aplenty.

Imported fruits are also available, cheaper and well assorted than those in big departmental stores. If you are hungry there are many food stalls such as this Yong Tau Foo & Chee Cheong Fun mobile stall.
Vegetables for ulam and kampong fruits are found over here and nasi Lemak bungkus for a quick purchase or meal.

This stall at the butchery corner serves very delicious roast pig. Just look at the queue. Peanut pancakes stall is also popular runs by a father, mother & son team.

Another Chee Cheong Fun stall which my sons like it very much especially his fried wanton (dumplings). Opposite it is the Roast duck stall runs by an old but strong aunty.

Other stalls like fish balls or even prayers stuffs such as joss sticks are also available….. at times you will be surprised to see things sold at this market. It is always interesting coming to this market.

A typical Malaysian Market in Malaysia, you don’t see it in USA, Europe, Middle East, China or Australia.
