The Royal Golf Challenge 2010 - Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah

Back in 2007 Yong Lim got a hole in one at this tournament at the same golf course at Cinta Sayang Golf & Country Resort in Sg. Petani and this year I am with him for the same tournament.

This is the hall for the Lunch, mock cheque presentation which Advancecon Sdn Bhd donated RM5,000 for the foundation and also prize giving ceremony for the winners of this tournament.

We started at Hole 7 together with Ir. Ismail Mohd Zain and Che Zabidi Che Ani both from Alor Setar.

We reached the golf course early in the morning around 6.40am registered ourselves and had a good breakfast at the Club House before the Tee off.

The Sultan’s daughter was the guest of honor YTM Tunku Panglima Besar Dato' Seri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Binti KDYMM Tuanku Sultan Haji Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and was on the first flight with our boss, Dato’ Ricque Liew.

The prizes for hole in one were a motor bike and a corner unit of single storey house worth RM140,000 plus. Every participant tried their luck but nobody was lucky to strike jack pot. Maybe try the next round.

Cinta Sayang Golf & Country Resort is a popular golf course in Kedah and within the area there are a theme park and a nice residential area. There is this elegant block of condominium at this resort home. Why build condo here where landed properties in Sg Petani is relatively cheap (averagely RM200,000 plus you can get a semi detached).

Restoran Chao Zhou @ Chai Leng Park, Penang

Back to North again for a golf event in Sg. Petani and it was a day before the event I took the opportunity to meet an old friend from Padang Serai in Province Wellesley (now known as Seberang Perai). Ooi Bee Tin, her hubby Charlie Ong and her two lovely daughters Ashley & Zhu Ying treated me a dinner at Restoran Chao Zhou at Chai Leng Park.

This place must be having a brisk business especially during a festival season like Chinese New Year which I reckon they would like their customers to patronise their New Year packages rather than serving simple ala carte dishes. We were there early probably around 6pm the restaurant has just started their evening business.

We ordered a Fish Head Fried Hor Fun but instead of fish head we were given fish meat (as the fish head is out of stock). This is their signature dish of Restoran Chao Zhou.
This dish is rather unique which you could hardly find it elsewhere.

I like this fried stuffed squid, it was really special and tasted fabulous. I had two of it and I love sotong.

This is a combination of Ku Chai veggie cake and Lobak, I guess this is a typical Teochew cuisine. I have never seen such a dish for a long time in any restaurant.

I would like to thank Bee Tin & family for their hospitality and the wonderful dinner at this Teochew restaurant in Taman Chai Leng.

Betty's Midwest Kitchen @ Aman Suria Damansara

I have read quite a fair bit of this “America on a plate” at Aman Suria from several blogs and lately foodbin triggered my visit to Betty’s place. And yes, my whole family loves the food here and want to come back again, this daddy is now in trouble!

Of course I am talking about Betty’s Midwest Kitchen and surely a big thumb up for Betty.

Xiang Yi ordered the most expensive among all “Grill Baby Back Rib” RM28.50 and he wanted more after finishing it…..

The youngest one had this “Pull Pork Burger” RM12 and it was too small a portion for him, we got to “donate” a bit of ours to him….hahahaha.

This was my share “Grill Pork Belly” RM24.00 and it was delicious and satisfying…. Jo loves it too.

Jo savoured this American dish “Classic meatloaf” for RM15.00 and passed the grade for GOOD & tasty food. She loves the mashed potato & its sauce.

And the Big Boy, Shou had this Pork Chop, I find that the meat was tough and would like it to be more tender.

Apple Crumble (RM8.00) for the family to share and complete the meal. Overall it was truly a good dinner and every one of us vouches to come back again.

Fried Noodles @ Restoran Tuck Kee, Ipoh

The journey back to KL was longer than expected, we stopped at Ipoh to break the boredom and to search for some Ipoh food. The time was around 5.30pm the sun was hot and setting, we parked our car near the famous Waisekkai (Glutton Street) of Ipoh and went surveying for food.
The 2 Taugeh Chicken shops were packed with people we wouldn’t want to go near it and decided on Tuck Kee Restaurant which was a few doors away.

Sar Hor Fun was the favourite among the 3 noodles we tried. It was delicious, the Hor Fun was smooth and soothing to eat.

The second favourite was the Char Hor Fun, at first when the waiter brought the bowl of noodle, I thought it was Loh Mee (something like Ulu Yam’s Loh Mee) but it turned out to be Char Hor Fun served in a bowl with lot of thick gravy.
And the third noodle was the Dai Lok Mee, just like KL Hokkien Mee but with lighter colour. It was good too.

Before the noodles came, we had these nice and soft Braised Chicken feet.

Ipoh bean sprout was another must try dish when you are in Ipoh.

It was our first time here in Tuck Kee Restaurant and we love the noodles here.

We reached our house exactly 2 minutes to 10.00pm. It was surely a long journey back to KL. A 7 hours journey........

A Thai Treat @ Mae Salong, Sg. Petani

I have been to Fish Farm Thai Restaurant in Ulu Langat, Khunthai in Butterworth, Sawadee 88 in Sg. Besi (KL) and now Mae Salong in Sg Petani. All these places have one thing in common that is resort dining. One thing for sure is the eating during CNY; it’s too much lah…. Anyway it’s Chinese New Year let’s celebrate.

And welcome to Mae Salong. A place tucked in nowhere (at southern side of Sg Petani) just like the other places (yes, another characteristic of these restaurants - always at a hideout).

Deep fried chicken for the kids, the only dish they enjoyed.

Kangkong Belacan was Shou Yi’s favourite.

Kelabu chicken’s feet were good and tasty.

Fried Tofu was a disappointment, maybe we were not used to the soft texture of the fried tofu.

This Steam Red Jenahak was a bomb… the soup was hot, sweet, sour and was really yummy that we requested for more soup.

Seafood Tomyam was also good & tasty.

Crabs fried with salted egg was delicious, the crabs were soft and juicy. We could say that this is the best salted eggs fried crabs ever eaten. A big Thumb Up for this dish.

I enjoyed the sweet coconut “wine” mixed with Guinness stout which made me so relax and I could not make it to my next appointment in Kulim. I have to apologize for not turning up in Kulim for a gathering. I got to blame it on the drinks. See you people in Kulim next CNY… sorry….
