My first Ride to Fraser's Hill from Kuala Kubu Bahru Town

I arrived at this historical town called Kuala Kubu Bahru before 7am (27 Jan 2013) and was looking forward taking part in a ride up Fraser's Hills which I have always wanted to do it. The ride was scheduled to start at 7.30am.
I was glad to see familiar faces in this event and they are all foldies riding on small wheels.
I was also glad to meet new friends and they are young & old, age is only a number.
As sun rises the riders were all ready and eager to pedal.....
The main man Johnny Ng armed with a hand pump ready to assist any riders in trouble. Thanks to Johnny for making this trip possible.
A group photo before we flag off with more than one hundred riders, that was a big number for such an event like this!!!

And the ride begins.........................

Up up and away .... Frasre's Hill we are coming....and 41km away.

About 8km from the town we came to a huge and scenic dam known as Empangan Sungai Selangor

Michael lost his sister 41 years ago here at Chiling Waterfall and after all these years he is back to pay respect to his sister.
The Chiling Waterfall.
Good samaritans clearing a half fallen branch from the road. Terima kasih bruder.....
October 16, 1951 Sir Henry Gurney (the High Commissioner) was killed at this spot in an ambush by communists while on his way up to Fraser's Hill.
After a long and monotonous ride in the tropical setting merely seeing green & tarmac I was relieved when I saw changes in scenery I could see old colonial buildings, beautiful flowers & plants. What a relief....
So this is the "The Gap" once it was open at alternative hour for vehicles to go up and down but today it's only one way up and another new way down. Me & a few friends took a rest and had a light food before we proceeded to do the next last 8km.

The last 8km was very "long" and terribly torturous but I had to move on inch by inch pedal by pedal to ascend the hill....
I stopped once and find difficult to re-start so I told myself not to stop again and go all the way up. I tried not to look up too much in front of me so I spent most of the time looking down at the road counting the solar powered reflectors along the road side.....it was a slow uphill indeed.

Hooray.......I see cilvilisation as I approaches Fraser's Hill........
And I saw the clock tower which I wanted to be there.
The moment of truth. Thank you to Radzi for taking this historical picture. Hooray again....hehehe I made it.
It was a happy moment for everyone of us taking hundreds of pictures of the beautiful resort.

All things done, mission completed and a time to pamper ourselves with food though the pricing here was exorbitant but it was only once in a life time ...who cares......
After the lunch we went back to the clock tower and took a rest before we move back.

We bumped into friends who rode and came from different direction, they came from Bentong/. It was nice to see them and my salute to them for doing a much longer distance in their journey.
Some of us decided to ride back first...bye bye Fraser's Hill we shall see you again.
One of the many colonial bungalows in Fraser's Hill, this one was on our way out.
We arrived safely to the same coffee shop at Kuala Kubu Bahru, rested a while before we headed home.
The journey back to Kuala Kubu Bahru, it was fast, breezy and enjoyable though my body was suffering....

Hi I'm Stephen from the USA. Cool ride! I'm going to be cycling from Singapore up into Myanmar starting on January 17th. I'm definitely excited to check out Fraser's Hill. What's the best way to get out to the starting point from KL. I'm a bit worried cycling into KL!

I'm really excited to bike all through Malaysia!

cheers,

Stephen
