Heng Nam Hai Coffee Shop @ Jalan Kepong Lama

A contractor friend of mine by the name of Mok has taken over this coffee shop recently. He is maintaining the original name of the shop “Heng Nam Hai” and together with his family they are running the show. It is located at Jalan Kepong Lama (an old road leading to Jinjang North).

According to Mok, this coffee shop has over 50 years of history and he has revamped the whole operation by single handedly picked 10 food stalls for the new coffee shop. The place was crowded when we visited for lunch. Not bad for a start .

Pork noodle was delicious with clear and tasty stock. Ekay Tan likes it.

Simon Ngu tried this Bitter Gourd Fish Head noodle but I forget to ask him for his comment.

The mention of Fried Koay Teow with duck egg initially excited me. I was expecting a Penang Char Koay Teow. The fried noodle turned out to be darker in colour which I was disappointed not to see a Penang kind of Char Koay Teow. Though the taste is not too bad but I would obviously prefer the Penang CKT.

The kaya is made by Mok’s themselves and he claimed to be good which has less sugar. We tried it with butter on toast (roti bakar) and we like it. Kaya is actually made from coconut milk, egg and sugar.
You must try their Chinese Tea “Char” apparently Mok “blended” the “Char” himself. We shall visit Heng Nam Hai again to try the other stalls, may be the chicken rice. The seller was busy chopping chicken when we were there.
