It has been a long time since this wash basin at home has not been functioning, reason being there is a leakage of waste water at the bottom of the basin. And the cause of it is this white plastic bottle trap.
My wife has been complaining about it and I have been procrastinating to get it repair. The last repair was done by a plumber and it did not last too long. Today I decided to diagnose it, fix it and take pictures of this exercise. These are the openings after taking out the “problem” bottle trap.
These are the parts of the dismantled bottle traps, stinky and need a lot of cleaning. And eventually I found the problem. It is this corroded screw that has became under size causing the connection at the trap to be loose. So change that bloody screw…
The new parts seen here with the 2 tapes cost RM4.50. And I tried to salvage the bottle trap.
Unfortunately, after fixing the bottle trap it still leaks. The entire trap needs to be changed as it is not compatible with the new parts. There I go another trip to the Hardware shop to get the 2nd parts and spent addition RM5.00 .
At last the repair was satisfactorily completed and I hope it will last. My wife would be happy to see the basin back to normal when she is back from Church (kind of a surprise for her)…
Imagine if you were to engage a plumber to repair, I think the bill would probably be RM50.00 (I spent only RM9.50 on the parts and not all parts were used)…Have a good weekend....

BackStreetGluttons - I am also one of the lazy ones which needs a little bit of pushing b4 anything can happen. D.I.Y is sometimes interesting.
Whoever created PTFE tape deserves a prize. They are God sent in repairing minor leaks.
I think so, if not we will be using threads & white putty hahahaha
Just Rm50? I'd happily give you Rm150 to fix my kitchen sink lol :)
Email is k.chno.n@gmail.com, if you can settle it, I have to call you plumbing god already LOL
The plumbing system is a major component of your home. The disruption to daily activity when a major failure or mishap occurs is always significant, but most plumbing problems don't develop overnight

Who wouldn’t be happy to get everything back to normal? Also, fixing the leak on your own was certainly an accomplishment. If you want to find yourself a reliable plumber, ask for referrals from friends, relatives, or anyone who has been through a similar situation. It is important to have a reliable plumber who’s ready for service whenever issues like this arise in your home.
