Restoran Taiping Ho Chiak @ SS2 Petaling Jaya

We were at the vicinity of SS2 somewhere near my in laws’ house and decided to visit Restoran Taiping Ho Chiak for lunch which we wanted to try ever since we noticed this shop.

As we enter the shop we were impressed with the nostalgic Nyonya theme coupled with strong Taiping ambience.

We opted for a set lunch for 3 pax and a plate of additional soya sauce pork also known as “Tau Eu Bak”. The service was pretty fast as the foods are all pre cooked and ever ready for quick service.

Sambal prawn was a disappointment, the worst dish on the table.

Sambal belacan here does not have enough oomph, there are better sambal belacan in town.
Acar Timun or preserved cucumber was slightly below average; the colour of the acar is turning dull…

Duck in salted veggie soup “Kiam Chye Ark” was on average footing and I quite enjoyed it.

Jui Hu Char was quite good even though it was dry.

Lor Bak was also averagely acceptable and it was slightly over fried with weak presentation.

The additional order of soya sauce pork “Tau Eu Bak” was the most delicious among all. That costs RM16.80 for the plate.

Desserts or so called “Tong Sui” of the day were also served as part of the set lunch, a truly commercial package with nothing nice to say here…just eat it.
Frankly speaking none of all these dishes can beat my mum’s cooking. Maybe once you go commercial, the quality of the dishes tends to deteriorate.
That's only my opinion of the food it might differ from yours, please got check out yourself at

Kiam Chye Ark and Ju Hu Char is something I look forward to. I am glad it is of acceptable standard.
